 A Very Special Meal
On January 17, Our Lady of Peace hosted A Very Special First Eucharist Meal. The group that will soon receive First Eucharist had a special, served meal with parents and grandparents. The evening was a special way to begin sacrament preparation. Siblings either stayed at home or, in some cases, served the meal and participants gained a greater appreciation for the sacrament they will soon receive. After the meal, the group went into the church and learned about the connection between their meal and the Eucharist. Can you remember your First Communion (as it was once called)? Do you remember the preparation and getting dressed up for the special day? Do you remember feeling more mature after the event and that somehow your connection with God and the Eucharistic community was much stronger? Do you remember that next Sunday when you were able to leave your pew and walk with parents and/or older siblings and fully feel like you were part of the community? Remember those feelings when First Eucharist is celebrated at the end of April.
Mardi Gras is Coming - Go Through This Checklist to Make Sure You Are Prepared!
Mardi-Header

Come one, come all to the 2012 Mardi Gras Gala!  This year's event will be on Saturday, February 11th and, as always, it is an event not to be missed!

Here are a few things that should be on your to-do list for the week:

1.  Call your favorite babysitter and nab him or her before someone else does! Seriously, this is a popular event and it'd sure be a bummer if you were not able to round up child care!

2.  Consider grabbing some friends and securing a VIP table. Due to their popularity last year, we are adding a few more for Mardi Gras 2012. For $400, each table of eight will enjoy exclusive seating for the duration of the evening (and seats are often hard to come by at this popular event). OLP school parents-turned-waitstaff will serve you drinks and special appetizer and dessert trays all evening. There are also door prizes and a few more perks. One table is already sold and a few sales are pending; perhaps folks who enjoyed their tables so much last year are acting quickly to secure one for this year...  Submit a check for $400 with "VIP table" in the memo to the school or parish office before you lose your chance!

3.  Please contribute something to the big event. Of course your being there that night is a contribution, but there are SO MANY other ways to do your part. Sponsor or co-sponsor a Group Event.  (Contact  Crystal Wood)  Buy a gift card or something fun for the Silent Auction and/or pick up a bottle of wine or two for the Wall of Wine.  (Simply drop off any donations at the school or parish office.)  SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER THAT NIGHT!!

4.  Start thinking about which Live Auction items you'd like to bid on.  Just a few of the awesome items on the list include a Jail Tour, a Wine Tasting event, a Burger and Beer Dinner at the Rectory and an Iron Chef event featuring two OLP parishoners going head-to-head!

5.  Brush off those dancing shoes and break out those beads! Mardi Gras Gala is a super opportunity to glam it up and go all out!  Think sequins, bright colors, big, chunky necklaces, shiny shoes. Or don't... you will be welcome and have a blast however dressed up or down you are.
Mardi Gras Gala 2012... Don't let it sneak up on you!
