Support for Local Students

Wednesday, Jan. 11th Students in White
This last Wednesday the middle school students, and students from around the state, wore the school colors of Jack Jablonski the student injured last week during a hockey game. The movement to support Jack was initiated by Jack Odegard in 6th grade, and swept through the middle school with nearly everyone in white. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Jack and his family during this difficult time. Our hope is kindled by reports that he was able to raise his arms by Tuesday Jan. 10th! If you wish to contribute in support of Jack Jablonski during his recovery you can find updates and information for donations at the his recovery website: jabby13.com Thoughts and Prayers We also keep Jenna Privette in our prayers this week as she recovers from a spinal injury sustained during a hockey game played for her school St. Croix Lutheran High School, in honor of Jack Jablonski. She is recovering and her school will be starting a donation fund next week to assist her family with the medical expenses. Students throughout the Twin Cities are wearing blue in school in support of Jenna during her recovery.
Please keep both students and their families in your thoughts and prayers this week!

Morning Drop Off

Morning Drop Off Safety Concerns
Many parents have expressed concerns about the safety of children during the morning drop off. Let's see if making some minor adjustments can help all of our children stay safe.
K-8 families:
You can help by using the spot direct in front of the building---door 10---as a quick stop and drop. If you need to get out of the car to help unbuckle a child or watch them go into the building please pull up to the North side of the big tree.
Preschool and Prekindergarten
The barriers on the playground will no longer be set out early in the morning so that you can ease congestion on 55th by driving onto the parking lot and parking to take your child into the building. You can also continue to use the street parking if there is space available.

Class Volunteers
| |

Junior Achievement
Junior Achievement serves youth. It uses hands-on experiences to help young people understand the economics of life. In partnership with volunteers and educators, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential.
All class materials are provided by JA. The lesson plans are user friendly, fun, and easy to teach. Experience in business is NOT necessary to be a Junior Achievement volunteer.
The fifth and seventh graders are in need of a volunteer to teach the session. There are six 40-minute lessons. All the materials and lesson instructions are laid out so minimal preparation is needed.
Without a volunteer, the program cannot be offered to these grades. Please contact Mary Roth at mroth@olpmn.org if you would like further information or if you are interested in leading the JA classes.

Scrip & Student Mardi Gras Donations

Next round of Scrip orders due 2/1/12 with delivery the week of 2/6
Already a dedicated Scrip shopper? Still haven't tried using Scrip yet? Whether a newbie or a veteran Scripper, we need you! By simply purchasing gift cards to major retailers like Cub Foods, Gap, Starbucks, Target, Lands' End, and many more, you can raise lots of $$ for OLP! You can order online at www.shopwithscrip.com or submit the paper order form that will be coming home in Friday folders on 1/20.
Middle School families: please remember to turn in money for the iPad raffle
In lieu of doing a classroom basket for the silent auction at Mardi Gras, the 5-8th grade classes will once again be purchasing an iPad/accessories for a raffle that night. The suggested donation is $10 per student (more is always welcome!), and donations can be turned into your advisory teacher or the main office in an envelope marked "iPad raffle." The deadline is 2/1.

Peace Circles Advent Giving
| |
As part of Advent faith sharing and our celebration of Las Posadas, students worked together in their Peace Circles to make fleece baby blankets. The blankets were donated to Tapestry Pregnancy and Resource Center, which provides life-affirming support to women and children in crisis in three areas: unplanned pregnancy, personal empowerment and humanitarian outreach. They were very appreciative to receive our handmade blankets!
