Bastogne Walnut - a Paradox
| |
| |
Bastogne Walnut, also known as Paradox Walnut, is a rare but natural occurring hybrid between Claro Walnut and English Walnut. Bastogne Walnut is rare because the trees are sterile, and so only grow naturally not through cultivation. Unlike most hardwoods, they are fast growing trees, maturing in 20 to 80 years, and grow larger than either Claro or English Walnut. Bastogne Walnut is also denser that any of the other walnuts. Its color can be absolutely striking, often having the color of Claro and the dark streaks of English Walnut. Because Bastogne is so strong and heavy, yet easy to work with, it is ideal for tonewood, gunstocks and fine furniture.
