 We've Been On the Road...

on a Log and Lumber Buying Trip.

Cypress Log
Alan measuring an Old Growth Virgin Cypress Log
We have just come back from a log and lumber buying trip and we have purchased some beautiful wood! We found some very wide exotics including 8/4 Jatoba up to 34" wide, 12/4 Angelim Pedra 39" and wider and 8/4 figured Bubinga up to 57" wide.

We also bought some reclaimed Old Growth Cypress logs. These sinker logs have been sitting on the bottom of a river for over a hundred years and just now are being recovered. Most of these logs sunk to the bottom of the rivers around the turn of the 20th century when they were being floated down river to sawmills. Cypress has a natural preservative oil so not only did they not rot while underwater but instead they developed a dramatic color and rich patina. Often these logs are much larger than new growth cypress since they were over 1000 years old when they were first cut down. One log was nearly 5' in diameter and was cut down with an axe. Old Growth Cypress is in high demand now not only for historical restorations but fine
furniture makers
prize it for its beauty and durability.
