Ankle Braces

We encourage all players to wear ankle supports to practice and matches.  Rolled ankles are the most common injury in our sport, and ankle braces have been proven to prevent or lessen the severity these sprains.  The Tstreet store has a brand in stock called Bledsoe and sells them for $25 per brace.  The closest equivalent to the Bledsoe brand is the ASO - information and specs for ASO, Bledsoe and many other styles can be found online.  Depending on the severity, a rolled ankle can keep an athlete out of practice for a week or months.  Braces are not mandatory at Tstreet, but they are highly encouraged.

 Bledsoe Ankle Brace

How to sign up for a PRIVATE LESSON:

1. Visit the Tstreet website.
2. Hover over "One on One" and click on "Private Lessons".
3.  Follow the instructions for easy scheduling with the coach of your choice.
4.  Payment is due at the time of the lesson and should be given directly to your coach.
Tstreet Security

Tstreet recently installed a security system that includes five indoor cameras as well as two cameras outside our building.  All cameras feed to a central recording dock that is on a thirty day cycle.

Work was done by Platt Security, a referral of Bill Blaire.  Bill is the Deputy Chief of Detectives for the City of Long Beach and his daughter, Emily, sets on our 16-Raul's team.

FYI, there are over a dozen girls playing for Tstreet with parents who work in law enforcement.

Collegiate Showcase Tournaments

"The 2012 Fiesta Classic" Tournament at ASU in Tempe, Arizona, from January 14th-16th marks our first collegiate showcase tournament of the new year. Teams from Tstreet Volleyball Club's 16U, 17U and 18U will compete in 16U and 18U divisions.

Complaint Free World

Thanks to all of you who purchased "Complaint Free World" bracelets!  Hopefully you're seeing the powerful difference that switching from negative thinking to positive thinking can make in your life. Remember that we can all "Be the change we want to see in the world".

Soka University

As you can tell from the schedule, Tstreet is now utilizing Soka University for some of our practices.  The plan is to rotate Soka training among all Tstreet teams throughout the year.  If however, there is a team/coach that wants a permanent schedule of Tuesday and Thursday 7 to 9 pm training at Soka, the office can and would like to accommodate.

Gym space is in high demand in South Orange County, and Tstreet is fortunate to partner with Soka University and its athletic department. In years past, we (Tstreet) have trained there, and due to our good history as rule followers, we are once again Soka's first choice of terms of what group they'll allow to use their fantastic facility.

Please help us keep this relationship in good standing by abiding by the following guidelines:

1)  After going through the kiosk and letting the guard know you are a part of Tstreet, park in the lot immediately to your left.  (Do not drop off your child in front of gym and then make a U-turn)

2)  Please stay off the grass as you walk the short distance to the gymnasium.

3)  Only water is allowed in the gym -- no sticky energy drinks

4)  No food at all is allowed in the gym

5)  Don't allow your child to chew gum while training (in any gym)

6)  Parents can sit on floor or in their own beach chairs while watching practice.  However, chairs that do not have rubber coating on legs are not permitted.

7)  After practice, do not park in front of the gym and wait for your daughter to exit.  You must park in the aforementioned parking lot, walk to the gym, get your daughter, and walk back to your car.

Soka University is located at

1 University Drive in Aliso Viejo, CA  92656

Welcome to the 2012 club season!

We're expecting big things from all of our girls and teams this year. Hopefully all of you have had a chance to watch your daugthers train and are noticing the remarkable improvements taking place. Consistency in training and instruction, combined with a strong commitment to adjust and work hard by the girls, will lead to a successful season full of great memories.

For families new to Tstreet, "STUFF" is the club's newsletter and contains information, reminders and highlights pertinent to our membership.  "Stuff" by the way, is  a volleyball term for a terminal block against an opponent. So, the title of our newsletter is a double entendre for a "blocked ball" as well as "information, reminders and highlights."
We hope you find it informative.

PJ Salvage Warehouse Sale a great success!

A great big thank you goes out to the Burke Family (Peter, Karen, Lauren & Maxine), for opening up their warehouse to the Tstreet community for our annual PJ Salvage fundraiser.  Not only do we all have fabulous, comfy and fashionable jammies, the Burke's generosity is getting us closer and closer to building our Player's Pavilion, where our girls will be able to snack, socialize and study.

NEW "Tstreet TWEENS"

Youth League beginning in 2012!

Beginning in January, Tstreet will be adding a new program for young girls and families who want serious volleyball training but are not quite ready to commit to the full club season.  "Tweens" will practice two-times per week and compete in monthly non SCVA tournaments. Participants are encouraged to form same age teams within their school, neighborhood, carpool and friendship circles.  No volleyball experience necessary. For more information visit the Tstreet website ad click on "Youth Programs" and then "Tweens".

http://www.tstreetvolleyball.com/

Sign-ups will be available at our Sunday Tstreet Youth Clinics (See the Tstreet website's Calendar for Youth Clinic locations, dates and times) Participants will be selected on a "first come first serve" basis.

"Tstreet Tandems" Mentoring Program

Beginning in January, our 17's & 18's athletes will be paired with our 12's and 13's athletes to form the "Tstreet Tandems" mentoring program.  Each 17 & 18 year old athlete will get a little sister or two, and will participate in their practices, enjoy bonding activities and form their own personal relationships with each other.  By teaching, learning about and cheering for one another, we can all look forward to getting to know each other better within the Tstreet community and providing support toward future success. We are still looking for "Spirit Parents" to volunteer to oversee this program from the following teams:
12-Carson
12-John
13-Corey
13-Lindsey
13-Whitney
Please contact our Team Building Leader Mitzi Kincaid- (949) 293-3945 or email her @ mitzikincaid@me.com if you're an interested parent from one of these teams and haven't signed up for a parent job yet.

Before the First Game

According to a recent Positive Coaching Alliance poll, parents of athletes who have experienced THE MOST ATHLETIC SUCCESS have "released" their daughter to the game, the organization (Club), and to the coach.
By releasing their young athlete to the game and coach, parents are telling their children that all successes are theirs, all failures are theirs, and all problems are theirs. There are not many places in a young person's life where their parents can say, "this is your thing", but it can be done in athletics.

Some "RED FLAGS" that indicate that parents have not released their young athlete to the game/coach:
-A parent who is continuing to live their own personal athletic dream through their child.
-A parent who tends to share in the credit when the child has done well in sport or has been victorious. ("I taught her how to pass.")
-A parent who finds themselves trying to solve all of their child's athletic-related problems. ("I'll just call the coach and solve this.")

A parent should realize that they are taking everything too seriously and have not released their child to the activity when:
-They are trying to continue to coach their child when the athlete probably knows more about the game than the parent does;
-They are a nervous wreck before their child's game;
-They have a difficult time bouncing back after their child's team suffers a defeat;
-They make mental notes during a game so they can give their child advice at the conclusion of the game;
-They become verbally critical of players, coaches or officials.

Remember - there are only four roles in youth athletics: spectator, competitor, official and coach. If parents are able to act appropriately, players indicate that they love to have them present as spectators at their games.  On the other hand, if parents cannot adhere to reasonable standards of behavior concerning modeling, poise, and confidence, many young athletes state that all factors considered, they would rather have their parents stay home.

Our coaches are thoroughly enjoying the process of teaching and getting to know their girls.  We hear them extolling their athlete's virtues and bragging among each other about their team's improvements. We continually see them sharing meaningful moments on the court with their girls as well as with one another. It's clear that they're invested in your daughters.  Keep up the good work as parents who allow our coaches to coach, while you release your daughters and show gratitude by cheering wildly on the sidelines.

Thanks and onward,

Troy Tanner
