Welcome!
Bay Hills Community:
It has been another great and safe summer in Bay Hills. Now on to cooler fall weather, fall events and sports, the best schools in the country, and to the joy of outdoor upkeep.
Stick your head around the corner of your house and see what is new. There have been quite a few new residents join our community. Please join the board in welcoming them to Bay Hills and where appropriate our Broadneck school community.
Quick Summer Recap
- We had two Broadneck High School grads athletes to root for at the Olympics and a lot of local Maryland competitors as well.
- The new playground equipment at the park on Bay Hills Drive was a "fantastic" hit with the kids and got a lot of use.
- The tennis courts have been repaired and resurfaced and are ready for your use.
- The tennis lesson program went extremely well.
- The storm drain under the basketball court on Bay Green Drive has been temporarily fixed by the County; we dodged a $100,000+ maintenance problem.
- The county continues to work with the state on a permanent solution to the storm drain problem - the real big bucks.
- The deer have invaded Bay Hills and have had a field day with flowers and plants. I can only guess it is the continued development in the area and the dry summer.
- We have had a few dogs (on the run) issues. See the Beacon blast from last week for more details on the latest and most serious event. The Capital published an article on it on 29 August. Most of the facts are there. I question their reporting of the breed, Labrador vs Pit-bull, but they should have gotten it right. Either way the dogs were quarantined by Animal Control.
Looking Forward
From the Association perspective:
Many of your board members will be retiring this fall. The number of openings on the board is overwhelming. Participation is urgently needed so that the association in not be run by one or two individuals. Even with the best of intensions one or two individuals can not do justice to the tasks of the association or represent the desire of our large, diverse community.
It has been some time since we have had a balanced board with the participants from the residential homes and each of the condo and apartments communities.
Call it what you may - fresh ideas, new energy, a balanced representation - your board needs help, fast.
There are opportunities for everyone. There is a need from those with a few moments a month to those with a few hours a month. There is a need for seniors in high school to seniors in life. There is a need for adults focused on raising children to those with business acumen, or both.
Please, please respond by contacting me or any member of your board. I can be reached by email or home phone at president@bayhillsonline.com or at 410-757-5575 in the evenings.
The annual aeeting is coming up fast. It is scheduled, as always, on the second Wednesday of October, this year October 12. Mark your calendar early, plan to attend and plan to vote.
Additional, as our community web blasts grow in popularity (important, time-sensitive information distribution), join in by submitting your email address and tell your neighbors to do the same. Your email address is and will be held in the strictest of confidence.
Serving the community,
Jeff Burkhart
