Welcome!
It is July already. Time flies when you are having fun in the sun!
It is great to see all the families using the community pavilion, playground, volleyball court, tennis courts and basketball court, not to mention the Bay Hills pool and the roads as a source of fun and exercise.
When driving through the community, watch out for all the activity. Remember the younger ones may not always be thinking about sharing the road with you and your 3,000 lb. car. And for goodness sake GET OFF THE PHONE WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING! *
Storm Drain Repaired
All is well in Bay Hills. Boy did we dodge a bullet. The storm drain piping that needed to be repaired near our basketball courts was repaired by the county at no financial cost to the Bay Hills Community Association (BHCA). That six -igure expense would have really put a big hurt on our financial status if we would have been left holding the bag.
What does remain for us to tackle is the repair and replacement to what was our full court basketball court. A repair now would only be temporary. When the state regulators and county providers resolve the permanent Deep Creek watershed drainage challenge, then it will be the time for the BHCA to make a final decision as to how best to use our Bay Green Drive property. Until then (2 to 3 years out) maybe we should just collect our desires, design thoughts and our pennies. Then, when the timing is right, we can decide what capital expenditure will best service our community for the next 40 to 50 years.
What do you think? Can we get by with a half court in the front and the full court in the back of the property?
Safety First
(*) I have to pass this message along: last week at the curve, at the bottom of Bay Hills Drive, there was a young lady riding her bike talking on the cell phone, weaving back and forth across the oncoming traffic lane. Fortunately, my wife and I were walking on the other side of the road and could look up the street ahead of her to make sure there was no one coming down the hill and around the corner. If there would have been, even if the car was traveling below the speed limit I am convinced they (car & bike rider) would have tried their best to occupy the same physical space at the same moment in time, and that would not have been a pretty situation. It would have been a horrible tragedy.
Pay attention to what you are doing, bike with traffic, and walk and run against the flow of traffic.
THINK SAFETY, yours and those around you. Check out the President's top safety tips for the month in this issue.

President's Safety Tips The top safety topics for any facility, whether the workplace or the home, are generally the same, but all are important in order to save lives and prevent small incidents from getting more serious. Education is the most important step in ensuring the safety of everyone. With each of these topics, education and refreshers work best. - Preventive Safety. Depending upon the use of equipment around
your home or office, each person needs to be instructed in possible accidents that can occur to avoid possible dangers. - Educational warnings and signs. Special products that identify dangers and draw attention to proper safety procedures should be a part of every home. These keep dangers fresh in people's minds as well as proper safety procedures.
- First aid. Even a small injury can be very serious if not properly
cared for. Other injuries need effective treatment before medical professionals can provide further care. - Smoke alarms. Effective maintenance and layout of these products can save lives through appropriate warning of possible fires. Evacuation procedures. The safe and orderly evacuation of a building/home can prevent panic and ensure that all people inside are kept safe in the event of an emergency. Does everyone know where your family meeting place/safe zone is? Do your family members know how to use fire
extinguishers correctly? Do they know where they are? Many large scale fires can be easily prevented by the correct use of these tools. - Stop, drop, and roll - a person catching on fire is a terrifying event, but is easily dealt with. Fire injuries like this can cause death and lead to spreading fires.
These topics are important for both the home and workplace. Every adult, young adult and child should be sure they have adequate knowledge of these topics.
Though every home/workplace/school/church or summer camp is different, the dangers are the same everywhere. Luckily there are many tools to help educate people and assist yourself, your family, and your fellow employees in case the worst actually does occur. |
