Basketball Court #1 Still Closed
The BHCA basket ball court #1, the court closest to Bay Green Drive, is closed while the board addresses a sink hole issue adjacent to court. A safety fence has been erected around the issue and the affected court has been locked and posted with appropriate signage. Court #2, located behind court #1 is open for play. Please make sure children and young adults understand the purpose of construction safety fences and locked courts. They are there for a purpose: safety.

Welcome!
Dear Neighbors,
There sure is a lot happening in our community. The Board is deeply involved in resolving the storm water pipe/sink hole issue near the community's basketball courts. I will write a more detailed report and make it available online. In summary, neither the county nor the golf course wants to take ownership of the problem. The board has pointed the County Public Works Department to a deed of easement and agreement between the developer of Bay Hills and the county that indicates it is the county's responsibility to maintain all "sewers, drains, water pipes and other public utilities and services" in and across the Bay Hills community. Additionally, the board has uncovered, in the county records, a second document that indicates the county and the golf course entered into an agreement in which the maintenance of the storm drain may have been transferred to the golf course. However, neither the county nor the golf course can find that agreement. Yes, the association attorney and a second recommended law firm are guiding us forward.
The spring community clean-up week is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, through Friday, April 27. The county will provide dumpsters from noon Thursday the 25th to noon on Friday the 27th. Two dumpsters will be provided: one for trash and one solely for metal. The metal will be recycled while the trash will go to the landfill. PLEASE DO NOT MIX trash with the metal. The county has provided a flyer identifying many sources of metal that can head to recycling. Click here for the flyer. For more information or to schedule a personal bulk metal pick-up at your home call the county's customer service office at 410-222-6100.
Our community garage sale has been scheduled for Saturday, April 22, the weekend before the dumpsters are available to Bay Hills. Although this is a bit early weather-wise, it is perfect timing to get rid of the things that don't sell.
Anne Arundel County Schools is hosting the senior high and middle school Regional Science & Engineering Fair at North County High School, 10 E. 1st Avenue, Glen Burnie, MD 21061, on Saturday, March 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For those who have not attended this event before, it is a fun event for participants and guests alike. This is a great opportunity for both budding science students and "experienced" adults to be wowed. Check it out! Additionally, this year the Broadneck Robotic Team is going to provide a demonstration of their design, construction and programming skills at the event, late morning.
The Chesapeake Bay Trust and the Anne Arundel County Forest Conservancy District Board are promoting small community-based "forestry mini grants." There are four deadlines: March 1, May 1, July 1, and September 1. Bay Hills Community Association could use the financial help replacing trees that have been lost on community property. Anyone with interest or grant writing experience willing to help out (student, scout, or adult) please contact a board member or send me an email directly at president@bayhillsonline.com.
Find more information and the grant application, here.
What's happening in your extended Bay Hills/Broadneck/Anne Arundel County community? Let us know and we will pass the good stuff along to the community.
Nice to see so many of you enjoying the early spring weather.
Sincerely,
Jeff Burkhart
BHCA President

The Anne Arundel County Forest Conservancy District Board and the Chesapeake Bay Trust announce a new partnership to provide small community-based grants (up to $1,000) to help communities and organizations increase the number of trees and tree canopy in neighborhoods, parks, and communities throughout Anne Arundel County. The purpose of this program is to provide funding to Anne Arundel County neighborhood associations, community associations, non-profit groups, and others to plant trees, increase tree canopy, remove invasive species, and engage citizens in those activities. Funding for the program is provided fully by the Forestry Board. Please note there are four deadlines for the 2012 program:
March 1, 2012 May 1, 2012 July 1, 2012 September 1, 2012
For more information, please visit the Chesapeake Bay Trust website. If you have further questions, contact Kacey Wetzel at 410-974-2941, ext 104. You can also access the grant application on the Bay Hills blog. Click here.
