December/2011

Greetings!

It's hard to believe that December has arrived and we're actually celebrating our 12th issue of the Mockingbird Gallery newsletter!  It's been a great experience working on the newsletters throughout 2011 and I think we've  succeeded at finding an interesting way to stay in touch with our collectors and artists in its inaugural year.  Thanks for your feedback and encouragement along the way!

This month we're highlighting two stellar landscape artists for our December 2nd First Friday Art Walk in a show we're calling, "Heaven and Nature."  Troy Collins hails from Montana and Bart Walker makes his home in Teton Valley, Idaho.  Both men love the rugged outdoors and have spent a good part of their lives exploring and playing in the backcountry wilderness.  Bart Walker's beautifully detailed oil paintings are reminiscent of early California landscapes, alive with deft brushwork and soft nuances of light.  Troy Collins' combination of vibrant colors and textural application of paint results in the bold, exciting abstract landscapes he is known for.  We hope you'll stop by to see the new works and say hello.  We're looking forward to sharing this beautiful body of new artwork with you!

Here's some news about a fantastic new landscape book coming out, and it may just be available in time for a special Christmas gift.  The book is called Art Journey America: Landscapes - 89 Painters' Perspectives, and it features works by two of our Mockingbird Gallery artists.  Please follow the story below to find out who they are!

Mark your Calendars for Saturday, December 10th and share a delightful evening with Ken Roth and Mockingbird Gallery at our 5th annual Home Studio Holiday Show!  There will be plenty of art, wine and refreshments to enjoy and one lucky participant will walk away with an original work through raffle!  See more below.

As always, we appreciate the opportunity to stay in touch and we hope you enjoy our December issue of the Mockingbird Gallery Newsletter!

HEAVEN & NATURE

Two Person Show featuring
Troy Collins & Bart Walker

Mockingbird Gallery is honored to bring together two stellar landscape painters for our December Exhibition which opens during the Bend First Friday Art Walk, on Friday, December 2nd, from 5 to 9 pm.  The show is entitled "Heaven & Nature", and it features Troy Collins from Montana and Bart Walker of Idaho.  Please join us for a glass of wine, to meet the artists and to listen to live jazz provided by Rich Hurdle and Friends.  The show will continue through the end of December.

Both Troy Collins and Bart Walker love the rugged outdoors and have spent a good part of their lives exploring the backcountry wilderness.  There they find inspiration and renewed motivation transferring the boundless beauty of nature's glorious color and light onto canvas.  Troy and Bart are avid plein air painters.  Back in their studios, they use those beginnings to recollect the light and evocative beauty of nature that bring their canvases to life.

Richard Boyer
Troy Collins

Troy Collins'
combination of vibrant colors and textural application of paint result in bold and abstract landscapes - a loose impressionistic style for which he is known.  Troy enjoyed a real Montana childhood, living and playing in high-mountain valleys and wild rivers around the state.  He passed his early years climbing trees, fishing blue-ribbon trout streams and tracking elk across the high country.  During his four-year apprenticeship in the studio of Idaho landscape painter Robert Moore, he learned foundations and principles that guide him to this day.

"Painting is a spiritual process for me.  I pour my heart into each composition as a celebration of the miracle of creation.  My goal is to move the viewer to experience a flood of powerful emotions, to feel the energy that flows throughout me as I put brush to canvas."

Bart Walker

Bart Walker's beautifully detailed paintings are reminiscent of early California landscapes, alive with deft brushwork and soft nuances of light.  With each painting he strives to make it more successful than the last, always challenging himself.  Workshops with distinguished artists such as:  Scott Christensen, Robert Moore, Matt Smith, Skip Whitcomb and others helped develop Bart's skills.

"Once I had the basics down, I began to strive for canvases filled with my own spirit and living in Teton Valley continually inspires my landscape work.  As an artist, I want to do still lifes, architectural paintings and figurative works, as well as landscapes.  Some artists are known for painting a particular subject well...I want to be known for painting well."
