March/2011

Greetings!

March has arrived and it's time to shift our focus and theme here at Mockingbird Gallery.  We'll start things out in this issue highlighting this month's feature show, focusing on a talented group of artists who bring us closer to the West through their compelling works of art.

Also in this issue we'll be celebrating Lindsay Scott's 6 page article in the March, 2011 issue of Southwest Art Magazine.

We will also be introducing you to a very special pastel artist from Saint Petersburg, Russia, who has recently joined our talented group. We'll finish things up by having a look at what's new here at the gallery with a visit to New Works on the Mockingbird Gallery website.

Thank you for following us through facebook and our blog, as well as allowing us to reach out to you through this online newsletter and website.  We look forward to hearing from you!

All Around Cowboy

"All Around Cowboy" by Austin Barton

Austin Barton was raised on the Snake River and Wallowa valleys of Oregon.  He has an intimate knowledge of the "western" way of life through breaking horses and working on farms and ranches.  He loves many aspects of that life, and those influences are reflected in the themes of his bronze sculptures: horses, cowboys and buffalo.

First Snow

"First Snow" by Bob Boomer

Bob Boomer's sculpture utilizes weathered manzanita wood found near his California home.  His favorite subjects are Native American women and children.  "I always leave some of the wood in its natural state, letting the viewer be a part of the creative experience."

Nez Pierce on Horseback

"Nez Pierce on Horseback" by Michael Cassidy

Michael Cassidy's paintings focus on his life-long interest in the Plains Indian culture.  He paints in oil using a "wet-on-wet" technique for these authentically painted portraits.  He presently resides in Bend, Oregon.

Five Birds

"Five Birds" by Lisa Danielle

Lisa Danielle is a western still life artist from Arizona who has great knowledge of Native American culture.  Her detailed renderings of baskets and pottery are rich in design and dramatic light.  Over the years she has built a diverse collection of historic memorabilia which add an element of authenticity.  "These paintings tell stories of cowboy lore in a thriving native tradition."

Apache Trilogy

"Apache Trilogy" by Carol Hamilton

Carol Hamilton is a "Western Woman" in her heart, her art and her lifestyle.  Her passions are watercolor, horses, open spaces and the Native Americans of the West.  When she is not painting she can be found riding the wilderness trails near her ranch home in the chaparral of California.  She is an avid collector of American antiques and Native American artifacts, which she assembles into still life compositions.

Ain't a Hole in Em

"Ain's a Hole In'em" by T.D. Kelsey

T.D. Kelsey is a self-taught artist who grew up on a ranch near Bozeman, Montana.  He was part of the rodeo circuit for many years in rough stock events and team roping.  Much of his artwork stems from his interest in Texas longhorn cattle and wild horses.  His passion for Africa and its wildlife has inspired many of his works and has fueled a growing concern for wildlife conservation worldwide.  He is a member of the Cowboy Artists of America, and his bronze sculpture is available in limited editions.

Winter's Gathering

"Winter's Gathering" by Sally Kimp

Bronze sculptor Sally Kimp designs her original sculptures in clay.  The focus of her sculpture is Native American women portraying aspects of everyday life.  Kimp portrays the indigenous people, including Navajo and Hopi, from her home state of Arizona.  Her signature patina is a rich terracotta.  Her special love of the outdoors and the simple beauty of nature are reflected in the smooth, flowing lines and peacefulness of her sculpture.

LINDSAY SCOTT - WINDOW TO A WILD WORLD:

We've just received our copy of the March, 2011 Southwest Art Magazine and we're excited to share this wonderful article on our very own Lindsay Scott!  They honored Lindsay with a 6 page article featuring 7 color images of her amazing paintings and drawings, of which 5 are available here through the Mockingbird Gallery.  The article is both informative and intimate, sharing with readers the story of how Lindsay grew up in Zimbabwe and how the beauty of that area first inspired her pursuit of a fine art career.  Thank you Southwest Art for focusing on Lindsay in your March 2011 issue and we'll be looking forward to Steven Lee Adams and Lorenzo Chavez in April!
