Video Feature: Operation Feed Day 2012
On March 1, the community celebrated its first Operation Feed Day. To begin
the campaign season and raise awareness of this year's hunger-fighting effort,
a variety of activities were organized, including a team spirit volunteer
project & luncheon, an "Inspiration Panel" featuring stories of those
engaged in community service, and a happy hour & mixer to celebrate
the start of the campaign. See more in this video about the day's events.

Featured Event: Cakes for a Cause
Calling all sweet tooths for a delicious way to support Operation Feed!
Thursday, April 5
Cakes for a Cause in 2011 was a huge success, and 2012's event is sure to be even bigger & sweeter! Join us on Thursday for an evening of mixing & mingling, highlighted by silent & live auctions featuring all sorts of treats. The event features food from Two Caterers, Cameron Mitchell Catering, Made from Scratch, & Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams; a Sweet Victory baking competition; milk tasting bar from Snowville Creamery, coffee station, & cash bar; and incredible auction offerings, including sweet treats, great hotel packages, massage packages & more. Monica Day from NBC4 will be on hand to emcee and present the Golden Spatula baking competition award!
The 6 - 9 p.m. gathering takes place at Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

Recipe Challenge: Unstuffed Cabbage Roll Casserole
Start Cookin' with the Operation Feed Recipe Challenge!
As part of nutrition education initiatives here at the Foodbank, we're on the lookout for recipes that highlight how easy it can be to cook dinner on a dime ... and eat healthy. Participation in the challenge is open to all--professional chefs & novice cooks alike. Entries will be reviewed by Dr. Amy, our Director of Nutrition, and approved recipes will be posted weekly on the Foodbank's website & shared through our social media networks.
Featured Recipe: Unstuffed Cabbage Roll Casserole
Ingredients
- 6 cups cabbage, coarsely shredded (approximately 2 pounds of cabbage) ($0.64)
- 2 Tbsp. oil
- ˝ lb. ground beef ($1.75)
- 2 onions, chopped ($0.40)
- 2 cups cooked rice ($0.40)
- ˝ tsp. black pepper
- 2 cans reduced sodium tomato soup ($1.00)
- 1 cup water 1/3 cup cheddar cheese ($0.33)
Oil and spices - ($0.50)
Instructions
- In a skillet, sauté cabbage in oil until softened; place in greased 2 ˝ quart baking dish.
- In same skillet, cook beef and onion until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in cooked rice and pepper. Spoon mixture over cabbage.
- Combine soup and water; pour over beef mixture.
- Cover and bake at 350F for 40 to 50 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle with cheese; bake 5-10 minutes more until cheese is melted.
Serves Approximately: 4
