Last Day for Papa John's Monday Madness Last year, Papa John's of Central Ohio joined the fight against hunger, organizing its first drive in support of Operation Feed. RECIPE FOR SUCCESS: Motorists Insurance Employees of The Motorists Insurance Group managed the impressive feat of raising $20,540 for the 2011 Operation Feed campaign - internally, with no outside donations - in just three days!
In previous years, the company held food drives that lasted for weeks. A few years ago, they decided to make the Operation Feed campaign shorter and more interactive, with buy-in and participation of the various sections within Motorist's Insurance. "The important thing was to try to incorporate fun into our fund-raising efforts," said Human Resources Specialist, Jenny Craft.
The 14 different divisions and approximately 600 employees that comprise Motorist's Insurance held over 100 different fundraising events over the three days in May. Every division was charged with creating its own individual fundraiser, and they ran the gamut: everything from book sales, dance contests and raffles to breakfasts, lunches and bake sales. The IT Department, for example, held a carnival featuring a corn-hole contest and other activities. Massages, homemade jewelry, personalized notepads and rubber duckies were also sold.
"It's great for team-building," said Craft. "Associates went from floor to floor on their breaks and lunches to see what was being offered by each department. There was a lot of interaction and camaraderie between employees that don't necessarily get together very often."
"Once again, Jenny and our team of department campaign leaders did an exceptional job with their individual efforts to support those in need. They all can be very proud of their efforts and great success," said Motorists Insurance Group Chairman, CEO and President John Bishop.
A big thank-you to all of Motorists Insurance employees for their creativity and generosity, which resulted in a significant contribution to the 2011 Operation Feed campaign. |

Reminder: Share Your Campaign Results
Once your campaign activities have concluded, please take a minute to tell us about your drive. Share your results online using this Final Reporting Form. Remember that the Meals Tracking Log can help you record food or funds raised and that each donation should be accompanied by a Food Drive Contribution Form or Monetary Contribution Form (this helps us ensure that all donations are properly credited back to your organization). Please mail checks and money orders directly to the Operation Feed bank lockbox for processing, rather than bring them to the Foodbank (several local banks offer Cash and Coin Processing Resources to help streamline processing of funds generated by campaign activities). All of these forms are available on Operation Feed's Campaign Coordinator Resources web page, along with additional resources to help finish your drive. See Wrapping Up - 4 Easy Steps or contact a member of the Operation Feed team with any questions. Thank you for your support!

SHELF LIFE: Heart-To-Heart Mobile Canteen In addition to supplying food and resources to food pantries, shelters and other "stationary" outposts, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank also assists the Salvation Army with its Heart-To-Heart Mobile Canteen, a service which delivers food and other donated items to neighborhoods in and around downtown Columbus where the need is great.
Every Saturday since 1997, 5-10 volunteers have prepared meals at a Salvation Army location in Worthington Woods. They load the pans, hot plates and thermoses onto a large "kitchen-on-wheels" and spend the rest of the day delivering food to clients at Fulton and Grant Street downtown, St. John's Church on Ohio Avenue, and at the Maryhaven treatment facility on Alum Creek Drive. Typically, a hot meal of meat, rice, vegetables and coffee is available. In addition to food items, volunteers distribute socks, blankets, and other donated clothing.
The clientele are primarily men, with some women and children, and have heard about the canteen through word-of-mouth. There are typically 20-25 people waiting every week when the canteen arrives at each location. Canteen volunteers operate on a tight schedule, but they stay until everyone has been fed. There is no eligibility requirement.
The need has grown progressively greater each year, as more people become aware of the service. In 2010, the mobile canteen delivered 14,626 meals.
"I find the work rewarding and can tell I'm touching people's lives," said one volunteer. "This has been great coming out on the canteen and seeing where the rubber meets the road with the ministry,"
In addition to support from the Mid-Ohio Foodbank and the Salvation Army, the Commercial Vehicle Group donates its time and service with maintenance of the mobile canteen vehicle.
The Heart-to-Heart canteen ministry is operated from the Chapel at Worthington Woods. To volunteer or to donate, please call Mike Foster at 614.846.1884. For more information about this service and other Salvation Army activities, visit the Salvation Army's web site at www.SalvationArmyColumbus.org. |
