Dear ARThouse friends,
This is the Month of New Learninghere at ARThouse! I have started teaching a new series of classes called The Figure in Watercolor. And as they say, "You learn most from teaching". I always find that I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.
We started approaching the figure by painting statues
using a special technique I develped a long time ago while painting pictures of construction rubble. I call it the "rivulet technique" and have written an article about it for my blog, which you can read here:
Some of my demonstration paintings from these classes are shown below. And the students are doing fantastic work, which we will soon put up on the website!

Here are some paintings I did as demonstrations for my class on figure painting in watercolor:

"The Little Piper" watercolor by Susan Avis Murphy image 9x13"
"Water Nymph" watercolor by Susan Avis Murphy image 14x18"
I am taking a workshop in figure painting myself this coming week from nationally-known artist Carla O'Connor. This workshop is sponsored by the Baltimore Watercolor Society and actually I am the coordinator. In my next newsletter I will hopefully have some good results to show you from this exciting workshop! --Sue
