Project of the Month:
Jefferson Animal Hospital:
From Idea to Opening

Jefferson Animal Hospital and FASTSIGNS Louisville have had a working relationship for more than ten years, culminating in the biggest project to date - the opening of a new Animal Hospital on Bardstown Rd.

FASTSIGNS' Sam Cilone worked with Business Manager Rick Arrington, representing Dr. Patricia Kennedy, from the very beginning, reviewing plans and blueprints to offer advice and preliminary designs. FASTSIGNS remained involved every step of the way and contributed to the Jefferson Animal Hospital in many areas, including:

  • frosted window graphics
  • two sets of channel letters on the building
  • a painted raceway to blend in with the roof and increase visibility for the channel letters
  • custom interior signs with tactile and Braille
  • reverse-lit channel letters over the Food Vault
  • framed canvas graphic in lobby
  • lighted cabinet signs
  • dimensional exterior graphic

This was truly a start-to-finish project that used many of FASTSIGNS' capabilities.  The new Jefferson Animal Hospital on Bardstown Rd. in Fern Creek is simply beautiful. Click here for more information.

Muhammad Ali Center
Increases Visibility

Two sets of four-foot tall letters are helping people see the Muhammad Ali Center (MAC) as they drive down I-64 and throughout downtown Louisville.

FASTSIGNS Louisville worked with the MAC to help increase visibility, providing renderings to help determine the correct size for the letters.  The channel letters are installed on the North and West sides of the parking garage structure that is part of the Center.

The signage project was supported by YUM! Brands and coordinated by immediate past-chairman of the MAC Board Jonathan Blum.  He was looking for signs that would complement the building and increase visibility for all the cars traveling on the highways and downtown, and "we're thrilled with the result."

Muhammad Ali will turn 70 on January 19 and the Center is planning a big celebration.  For information on all the events, and membership at the Muhammad Ali Center, click here

Helping Zappos Find Shoes

FASTSIGNS Louisville and Zappos.com have partnered on a variety of projects, and just completed a warehouse logistics assignment together.  Zappos worked with FASTSIGNS to develop a warehouse labeling system to help Team Members both put away stock and pick items to fill orders more quickly.

At the beginning of the project, Zappos manager Brent Rodney said the objective was, "to help any given Team Member find any one of over 9 million units in over 800,000 sq. ft. within 40 seconds."  That's a tall order for any sign system, but one we hope we met!

Moving

The Hurstbourne FASTSIGNS location is moving!  We're not going far though, just about two blocks down the road to the Stonybrook Center.

Our new location is at 9004 Taylorsville Rd, in the Stonybrook Center right next to Old Chicago Pizza.  That store will open on Tuesday, January 3 at 9AM.

The current location at 2911 S. Hurstbourne Pkwy. will be open through Wednesday, December 21.  After that, the store will close and customers can place and pick up orders at the Fern Valley location.

Mark your calendar for 11AM, Tuesday, January 10 and stop by our new store for the ribbon cutting!  We'll have snacks and door prizes!

FASTSIGNS
Donates to Crusade

The WHAS Crusade for Children had not updated their television set since 1986, and wanted something to help bring them into the 21st Century.  FASTSIGNS Louisville came to the rescue!

FASTSIGNS Louisville designed graphics for the set, which brings the past and present together.  Photos of the diverse group of people who have represented the Crusade over the years are pictured on the set pieces.

The theme is tied together visually with images of hundreds Crusaders who have helped build the Crusade, including Phylis Knight, Jim Walton, Dan Miller, Bud Harbsmeier, Patrick Hughes and the many Fire Departments, entertainers and volunteers along the way.

These images were printed on wallpaper and matte vinyl before constructing the set pieces.  The wallpaper was installed on a 11' x 21' backdrop.  Childrens' images were printed onto vinyl and installed onto six 12' high x 6' wide set elements.  The Crusade logo is prominent with hundreds of images screened in the background.

In addition FASTSIGNS Louisville donated a 70" monitor for the tote board.  The monitor will allow the Crusade to show video, animation as well as update financial totals during the telethons.

The new set premiered during the WHAS Crusade for Children Endowment Fundraising program, which aired on December 10.  FASTSIGNS owners Susan and Sam Cilone were on hand to present the gifts to the WHAS Crusade for Children on behalf of FASTSIGNS.

Recreating History

FASTSIGNS Louisville worked with the Fern Creek High School Alumni Association to recreate a historic font and replace channel letters that have stood above the school's signature round entrance for nearly 65 years.

The school's iconic and historic auditorium and rotunda received a renovation and the Alumni Association jumped in to help with some extras.  Replacing the letters was not on the list, but the FASTSIGNS design team worked with Alumni Association Executive Director Brian Miller to recreate the landmark.

The team recreated the font by tracing the remnants of the old letters and working with old photos of the school.  The new letters are custom fabricated steel letters.

"Those round steps leading up to the auditorium have been a part of Fern Creek since the 1940's," said Miller.  "We couldn't do a renovation without replacing such an important element of our school's history. That would have been impossible without FASTSIGNS' help."
