Project of the Month:
James Graham Brown Cancer Center

FASTSIGNS Louisville and University Hospital have been working together for 15 years.  That's a lot of projects covered in that time span!  As the University worked on new colors and renovated the Hospital, we have assisted with the coordination of the sign standards.  Maintaining consistency in color, sign type and style are an important part of the aesthetics.

The renovations of the Brown Cancer Center were especially meaningful. Fabricating and installing the signs at the Brown Cancer Center involved working with the design elements and the various sign standards.  Sam Cilone coordinated the effort.

"We used architectural resin which was used throughout the Brown Cancer Center for counter tops.  We routed signs from that same material," Cilone said.  "Directories, restroom signs and small desk top signs were all made from the architectural resin.  They put real leaves inside the material to give it a special look, and make it match the look of the rest of the Center."

In fact, the Brown Cancer Center means a lot to us personally. Sam's mother had been battling breast cancer in Glasgow when Sam persuaded her to drive to Louisville to take advantage of the excellent facility and care available at the Center.  The treatments she received there helped extend her life.  "Thank you for telling me about the Brown Cancer Center and helping me come here," she said one day.

She passed away in July 2010, but the Brown Cancer Center means a lot to us.

Fern Valley Store is
FASTSIGNS Louisville Hub

The FASTSIGNS Louisville location on Fern Valley Road is the hub of our operation.  That's where our 6200 sq ft production facility is located, where our graphics designers work, and where owners Susan and Sam Cilone have their office.  This facility houses solvent and UV curable large format inkjet printers, computer driven table routers, rotary and laser engravers, vinyl cutters, photopolymer processing equipment, paint mixing station and a paint booth.  Inside and outside account executives, graphic designers, an installation team, and our production staff all work at this facility.  All of that adds up to a lot of experience and creativity for customers!

 FV staff

Graphic designers Matt and Derrick have a combined 21 years in graphic design, and both have Associates Degrees in Graphic Design.  It is not uncommon to have two or three printers, a vinyl cutter, and an engraving machine running while they are finishing a design or ripping the next file for output.

"I enjoy the creative aspect of my job and the camaraderie among my fellow employees," Matt said.  "We work hard and have a lot of fun in the process."

Joey has been with FASTSIGNS Louisville since 2006, working in production and fabrication of architectural signs. Joey quickly advanced into engraving, routing and painting.  Joey is working on his Graphic Design degree as well.  Rob works in production, with a sharp eye for detail, and has a long history with FASTSIGNS Louisville.  He has worked in other manufacturing positions, and we were very lucky to recruit Rob back on our FASTSIGNS team.  Rob is the first one here every day and sometimes the last one to leave.  He is passionate about quality!

Our installation team of Charles and Steve are unbeatable in the Louisville area.  Charles has been with FASTSIGNS Louisville since 2004 and works at top-quality installations of all kinds.  Charles and Steve install everything from vinyl graphics to post and panel signs, monument signs, dimensional logos, room identification signs and directories.  Steve joined FASTSIGNS with experience in drafting & design, vehicle graphic installation and extensive experience with 3M and Avery vinyl for vehicle wraps.  Together the team has more than 25 years experience in sign and graphic installation.

One of their favorite experiences was climbing into the twin spires of Churchill Downs to "pink out" the windows as part of Pink Day for the Oaks race.  "Only a handful of people have ever been inside the tops of the Twin Spires, and I am one of them," Steve said.

Rob is one of our outside sales representatives, coming to FASTSIGNS Louisville with sales experience and a unique combination of experience in the construction industry and hands on skills in fabrication.   Rob's construction and fabrication knowledge helps him manage large renovation or construction projects.

Our customer service representative, Chris, is new to our store within the past six months.  Chris has an Associates Degree in Graphic Design and a variety of retail experiences giving him customer service knowledge.

Amanda manages a variety of corporate accounts; she is Sam's right hand and Susan's left hand.  Amanda handles administrative responsibilities for both Sam and Susan, and she works closely with many of our larger accounts.  Amanda's vibrant energy is contagious!

The Fern Valley team works hard together to produce all of the visual graphics for FASTSIGNS Louisville.  From design to output, from printing to engraving, from production to installation; the Fern Valley location truly is the hub of FASTSIGNS Louisville.

Kosair Charities

to Raffle Car Nov.11

On November 11 one lucky person will win a 1968 Chevy Camaro! Several thousand other Kentuckiana residents will have helped Kosair Charities by buying a $10 raffle ticket for the car - even though they didn't win!

For the third year in a row Bob Beatty and the Louisville Shriners are helping Kosair Charities raise money by raffling a restored vehicle.  Again this year, FASTSIGNS Louisville is helping sponsor the event.  Beatty chooses a car, restores it if need be, and coordinates the raffle.  He shows the car throughout the area for almost a year, promoting the raffle and Kosair Charities.

Then, as will happen this year on November 11, the big raffle is held and the winner is announced.

Raffle tickets are available at both FASTSIGNS Louisville locations for $10 each.  Your ticket is also your admission to the drawing gala, to be held this year on November 11 at Crowne Plaza.  Doors open at 6:30 PM and the evening will feature free entertainment, appetizers and a huge silent auction.

Last year the event raised more than $156,000 and organizers hope to surpass that amount this year

Stand Up
Characters

Life-size characters are just plain fun and they can add spark to nearly any event.

FASTSIGNS Louisville has produced a variety of these cutout figures, from orangutans to George Lopez to Abe Lincoln.  From Tim McGraw to super heroes we've made life-sized figures for marketing events, promotional activities and informational signs.

A life-size stand up grabs attention and can be used in a variety of ways.  They can capture attention at a trade show, block a closed off hallway or even serve as a photo opportunity at a special event.

FASTSIGNS Louisville can print directly onto lightweight material such as gatorfoam, foamboard, or even cardboard.  Images can be cut to shape and easels can be added to the backside so they stand on their own.  For characters that will be standing for longer periods of time, spider feet can help the figure stand a bit more permanently.

Sometimes our stand ups have been known to pop up in our windows or throughout the shop before they make it to their final destinations! If you stop by one of the centers, you might see George Lopez peering out the window.

Consider a life-size stand up character to add some fun to your next event or promotion.
