Year End Giving

Much has been made in recent press about the "mega billionaires" pledge to give away at least 50% of their wealth to philanthropy. On its own, this is an enormous gesture and a message that has resonated with at least 40 of the wealthiest people and families in America. But consider what implications this message might have for you.  Most of us are not in a position to give away 10% of our assets, much less 50%, especially in challenging economic times such as we have seen in the last three years. But if each of us makes a commitment to just one worthy nonprofit at year-end - at a level that is comfortable financially -just imagine the impact that this support might have on those who are homeless, hungry and without jobs. We offer a few suggestions below; however, we encourage you to find your passion - with your family, work colleagues or friends - and make your own year end giving pledge to assist those in need. For more information about RSF Foundation, please contact us at 858-756-6557.

Slavation Army logo Did you know that 21% of homeless San Diegans are children and their mothers?

Now more than ever, many San Diegans are turning to The Salvation Army for food and shelter and hope.   Whether coping with domestic abuse, homelessness, emotional problems, disabilities or struggling to overcome economic diversity, the Transitional Living Center at the Door of Hope on the Margaret A. Cargill Campus offers a safe haven for homeless women and their children.

To meet the current needs of the community, The Salvation Army is doubling its capacity at the Door of Hope with a new housing project in the works to be completed December, 2011.  If you would like more information, please contact camille.mckinnie@usw.salvationarmy.org

The Salvation Army has been serving those in need in San Diego since 1887....giving food, hope and a place to live to homeless mothers and their children, providing meals and low-income housing to seniors, giving a needy family a hand up, helping disadvantaged youth, giving job training and shelter, giving a homeless person a break, and offering help in times of disaster.  The Salvation Army's promise is to do the most good.
