Good Day,
Many of you know me from the Lighthouse of Collier as a volunteer. Recently, I was hired as Collier County's Mobility Manager. What does a Mobility Manager do? Well, I'm the voice of transit and public outreach to our community regarding your transportation choices...and so much more! Collier Area Transit (CAT) wants to ensure that our facilities are accessible to all our riders, therefore we are asking for your help.
CAT is in the process of putting the finishing touches on our two bus transfer stations. In case you have not heard, we recently broke ground on the construction of the bus transfer station at the Government Center and we are updating our transfer facility at 8300 Radio Road.
If you are a Paratransit rider, we would still appreciate your input. The Paratransit system remains a door-to-door service, but you may decide to take the fixed route bus through a transfer station one day!
Each transfer station will have an accessible Real Time voice announcement information sign that can assist the visually impaired with bus route and schedule information. The sign will meet all ADA requirements; however we want to hear from you as to orientation and location features. CAT personnel has Travel Training available for all who desire and this training will be modified to include identifying the location of the sign , as well as how to use it.
To easily find the Real Time voice announcement information sign, our vendor has suggested activating an audible tone, such as a continual beep beep beep. Our initial assessment included asking question such as: a) How would anyone recognize that this beep is for the sign? b) Is this sound standard and recognizable by the visually impaired community? and, c) The continual audible beep would have to be loud enough for everyone to hear. Could become disruptive/bothersome to passengers waiting inside and outside of the transfer station.
Here is how you can help us! Please email us with your choice 1 or 2 as defined below, as well as any comments.
1. Sign should have a continual audible tone.
2. Sign should NOT need a continual audible tone.
Please respond via email, lesliepersia@colliergov.net BY Friday, May 25, 2012 with your choice, plus any comments or suggestions.
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
