HAYWORTH TO ICE CHIEF "RESIGN NOW!" |
Phoenix, AZ (MAY 21) -
U.S. Senate
Candidate J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) today called on the head of Immigration and
Customs Enforcement (ICE) "to
immediately resign his position."
John Morton,
Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for the U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement, said that his agency will not necessarily process illegal
immigrants referred to them by Arizona authorities.
"If
you're not enforcing the law, you are encouraging lawlessness," Hayworth said.
"First this administration allows the President of Mexico to lecture us about
our domestic policy and now the very agency charged with protecting us says it
plans to ignore the current immigration law that does protect us."
Morton
said a comprehensive federal approach, rather than a patchwork of state laws is
the only way to stop illegal immigration.
"Morton
sounds a lot like Sen. McCain used to sound until Mr. McCain started worrying
about me taking his job. But Morton should pay for this ill-advised policy by
resigning from his position immediately," Hayworth said. "A comprehensive
federal approach is just another way to say amnesty."
"But
the people of Arizona have a better solution - if someone commits a crime and
there is a possibility they are here illegally, police will ask them to provide
proof of U.S. citizenship," Hayworth said.
He
said the federal government should be standing with Arizona to protect our
country from all illegal aliens.
"They
are turning Homeland Security into a joke," Hayworth said. "Employees with Mr.
Morton's attitude toward protecting this country and who are paid with taxpayer
dollars need to get out of government now."
