Patti Stevens Missouri Valley, Residential Coach Here's what others had to say: Patti goes above and beyond for clients and staff. She is always willing to switch and work extra hours and help answer any questions staff may have. Patti looks out for the consumers' needs and their well-being. When she works at the houses she is very in tune with the needs of each consumer. Her concern for some consumers' diets, because of medical needs was instrumental in helping the consumers and staff with selecting healthier meal choices. |
Samantha Blintz Council Bluffs, Residential Coach Here's what others had to say: Sam goes above and beyond with everything she does. She always has a positive attitude and is willing to jump in and help whoever. Sam is willing to solve any problems that come to her and does all that she is expected to. She always puts client before herself and is willing to cover anyones shift. Sam truly a great attribute to Crossroads. |
Kellie McCall Onawa, LINKS Coach Here's what others had to say: Kellie has a wonderful attitude every day she works. She constantly goes above and beyond her job duties. She brightens the day for her coworkers and for the consumers. When Consumers go home, they talk about how much they enjoy her at LINKS. Kellie has a positive, calm effect regardless of the situation she faces. She is a great asset to CWI and to those she comes in contact with. |
Minority Association of Pre-Health Students Give Back
In November the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS) at Creighton University, used their service opportunity to give back to Crossroads during Thanksgiving break. They assisted staff in setting up the food, serving, and cleaning. This year's Thanksgiving event served over 100 people. MAPS felt that the experience was both humbling and exemplified the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
MAPS stated that the "gratitude the families feel towards the organization is clearly seen in their faces. Through speaking with one of the mothers of the clients, she expressed her appreciation for the services that Crossroads provides for her son. She said that her son enjoys the outside activities that they are taken on occasionally. She also expressed gratitude towards the day services Crossroads provides and feels secure that her son is in good hands while she is at work. This is a common feeling among all of the participants of the Crossroads family".
The members of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students stated that they "appreciate the opportunity that we were given to be a part of this annual tradition here at Crossroads of Western Iowa. This experience has allowed us to give back to the community. In truth, we received so much more through the staff and families' kindness and generosity". |
Building Remodel
The Onawa Crossroads is a hub of activity. There are contractors moving concrete, laying forms for new concrete, moving dirt so that the water is drained properly, putting in a new glass doorway, putting up new tin and finally planting grass and perennials to absorb the water that has plagued the Onawa facility for years. It has been extremely entertaining for all of us to watch the transformation. Wow, we are looking good! Come by and see us and all the great improvements that are taking place. These improvements are possible due to the gifts of many donors including Crossroads Foundation. |
Crossroads of Western Iowa would like to thank the Knights of Columbus #6249 for their generous donation to Onawa's building improvements!

Crossroads awarded $1,000 grant
Crossroads of Western Iowa would like to thank U.S. Bancorp Foundation, Peg Ingram, Branch Manager and John Heller, Community Bank President of Onawa for the $1,000 grant. The money will be used toward the renovation of two bathrooms and a kitchen at Crossroad's Onawa location.

New Partnership Missouri Valley, Organizational Employment

In November, CWI partnered with CTI, in Missouri Valley, to start 3-waste recycling. This new partnership will provide work activity for the clients CWI serves. Currently CWI has six workstations that allow six clients the ability to process e-waste. The clients dismantle various electronic items and then those materials are recycled. The various items recycled are copper, coated wire, aluminum, steel, high circuit boards, etc. The new job has created lots of excitement in the workshop over the past few weeks. A lot of the clients are interested in getting trained so that they can work on this new job.
Patrick Leisinger said, "I always want to work on the CTI job. It is a lot of fun!" |

Cristy Eliff
Missouri Valley, Work Room
Cristy Eliff has been in the LINKS program since May of 2010 and has just started working in the LINKS work room. This was a big step for Cristy because it is her first job and she was very nervous as to trying something new! Cristy said she would try to work 1 half day per week. After working for a couple of weeks Cristy said, "She likes getting paychecks so she can put them in the bank and save the money for a big purchase". Cristy now wants to work a half day every day! Cristy told her staff that she can't work every day all day because then she would miss out on LINKS outings! Cristy works on Major Plastics and recycling while in the LINKS work room. Great job Cristy!
