Outdoor Pavillion Project outdoor pavillion

An outdoor pavilion is being built at Crossroads in Missouri Valley. There are 5 students from Missouri Valley High School, along with teacher Paul Oldberg, building an outdoor pavilion for CWI consumers. The project started in August of 2011 and is slated to be done in the Spring of 2012. The pavilion will be an outdoor classroom for our LINKS program.   Crossroads has partnered with the Missouri Valley Garden Club to help with the landscaping around the pavilion and in the planters that are being built by the students. Brent Dillinger accepted into Leadership Iowa class 2011-12

Brent Dillinger

The Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) Foundation has announced the 30th anniversary Leadership Iowa class of 2011-12. Crossroads of Western Iowa would like to recognize one of its own, Brent Dillinger, Chief Executive Officer, for his acceptance into this influential program.

Leadership Iowa is a premier issues-awareness program promoting leadership within the state. They educate, challenge and inspire their participants to lead the way. The ultimate goal of ABI is to instill passion in current and emerging leaders while fostering a high level of civic engagement.

Class members are sought from all sectors: business, education, farming, labor, nonprofits, and government at all levels. Participants meet once a month from October through June. They will travel to communities across Iowa beginning in October discussing topics of Iowa's Changing Demographics, Healthcare, Government, Public Safety and Security, Education, and Agriculture and Energy.

The vision, commitment, and support of the executives at IMA and its successor, ABI, cannot be overstated. Now, 26 years and some 800 graduates after its founding, Leadership Iowa is making a difference for Iowa.

Second Annual Poker Run

Crossroads of Western Iowa held their Second Annual Poker Run on Saturday, October 15th to raise funds for their mission of empowering individuals with developmental disabilities and chronic mental illness to actively seek out opportunities for an enhanced quality of life.

The Poker Run began in Council Bluffs at Sugars Lounge and ended at The Edge in Missouri Valley. There was a great turn out for the event with over 70 participants making just over $1,400.  All funds will be used to help individuals with developmental disabilities and chronic mental illness.

"Crossroads of Western Iowa would like to thank all our participants and those who contributed their time and efforts to our Second Annual Poker Run. We had a great time raising money for the individuals we serve and hope to see everyone again next year at the Third Annual Poker Run. It would not have been such a success without all the help from the planning committee," said Kim Coffelt Lead Residential Coordinator
