Diem Photo ShootNew Curriculum for Development League, Champions League and GTA Premier League

We spent countless hours this summer writing a new and improved curriculum for our Development, Champions and GTA Premier Leagues.  With the aid of 2010 University Coach of the Year and former National Team player Dustin Reid, we also created a series of Volleyball Rubrics for each skill.  We will use the rubrics when evaluating the players in the leagues.  2 days of photo shoots with Diem Huynh, over 1,000 action shots, 20 hours of editing and writing ... the result: outstanding teaching and evaluation tools for our players.

Phil Team

Phillip has been coaching with Pakmen for 4 years.  During this time he has coached some of our most successful rep teams, winning dozens of Gold Medals and National Championships medals.  This past summer he helped guide 3 boys teams and 2 girls teams to Provincial Beach Gold.  He also helped Ricky and Dzmytri win the Ontario Summer Games in beach volleyball.

Phillip coaches the Wednesday evening Champions League program at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Sunday afternoon GTA Premier League programs:
Girls grades 7 and 8, Girls grade 9, Girls Grades 10 - 12, and Boys grades 9 - 12.  He will also begin coaching in our Saturday programs at David Leeder. Phillip is a very popular coach with the players because he is passionate and motivating.  We are fortunate to have Phillip on our coaching staff.

Hitting
When practicing hitting, it's okay for novice players to hit with the coach tossing the ball so the sets are consistent and the players learn the timing of hitting.  Hitting poor sets is an important skill to learn but it can be stressful on the shoulders and knees so learning with a coach tossing consistent sets is desirable.  Players should begin attacking balls from their setter once they have the basics of hitting down.  Next, they should practice hitting with a single, then double block.
