Found Money
Everyone is looking for ways to have more money for all sorts of wants and needs. But if you are like most people you are finding that there isn't as much money around at the end of the month as you would like. So how do you change things around so that you have the money available for things like Christmas, vacations, home renovations, and of course investing and retirement?
Well I have to tell you that the answer is much simpler than you think. It's an age old rule for creating wealth ... Pay Yourself First! I can hear you now, "easier said than done." Well I have to disagree. How do more and more of your bills get paid? The answer is automatic debit. Your mortgage, your insurance, your property taxes, utilities, gym memberships, etc all give you the option of monthly automatic debit. So why aren't you and your dreams on that same list?
One of my favourite books about money is The Richest Man in Babylon by George Classon. The first thing the book talks about is paying yourself first. Take the first 10% of your income and put it aside to grow. This is much easier to do now than in the time of the ancient Babylonians with the fact that you can have saving set up as an automatic withdrawal into your long term investments and short term savings.
Many people quickly discover that once they have set up their automatic withdrawals into longer term investments like RRSPs, TFSAs, or other investments and into their shorter term savings like the vacation or home renovation fund they don't even miss the money. Because they never saw it, as it went directly from their account into their future. Adjusting to a lower "disposable" income is relatively easy when you can see that it is building for something you really want.
Seeing your money steadily growing is a very exciting thing. It's the equivalent of finding money, but this time you know that you have it because of a ridiculously simple discipline of automatic withdrawals. If you can't bring yourself to do the full 10%, start with whatever you can be it even $25 a month, bet get started. You can always increase. Success in this area is the same as anywhere else. Begin no matter how small the step.
"Anything that we can do to raise personal savings is very much in the interest of this country."

Do you know what your most important job as a business owner is? Most business owners believe it is providing a great product or service to their customers. While this is definitely in the top five, it is not the number one job. Providing great service and excellent products is part of your number one job. Your job first and foremost as a business owner is MARKETING your business.
You may have the absolute best service on the planet, you might have the best products with the best prices, but if no one knows about it you don't have a business. Absolutely nothing happens until a sale is made. Marketing your business needs to be at the forefront of your thoughts and actions every minute of the day.
Marketing is not just advertising. Advertising is part of marketing, and covers many aspects of getting the word out about your business. Signage on your store front and on your vehicles is a form of advertising. Traditional advertising such as newspaper, radio, television, and billboards are another form of advertising. Social media is a new form of advertising that allows you to use Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and email. The more of these methods you can employ the more exposure your business receives.
While traditional advertising is an important piece of the marketing puzzle, if you rely on it as the sole form of marketing you will be sadly disappointed. The most effective method you have is positive word of mouth. Referrals are your best friend. If you have a person that loves your product or service enough to refer you to a friend, family member, or colleague you need to be appreciative of that and thank them. Let your customers know you take and are grateful for your referrals.
Do you know where your customers come from? Do you know what they have in common? Do you know why they use your product or service? Have you heard the saying, "Birds of a feather flock together"? If you know the needs, wants, and concerns of your customers and what they have in common you can easily go out and find more of them. Are they a certain age, live in a certain part of the city, belong to the same social groups, work in similar industries? What ties them together? Once you figure out the answer to these questions you can concentrate your efforts on getting your message to the right people instead of wasting your time on people that have no need or want for what you offer.
Put your message out where your potential clients are. Talk to people. Network. Let the world know that you are open for business and love solving problems for people. If you are too shy or reserved to market your business you will not be able to solve any problems for people and you definitely won't make any profit.
"The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well the product or service fits him and sells himself."
-Peter Drucker
