SPOTLIGHT ON
....Software as a Service (SaaS)

Software as a Service (SaaS) is an increasingly popular method of software deployment. As opposed to traditional software distribution, known as software as a product, vendors are able to provide their products to customers on the basis of need, and are licensing the ability to use the offered software, not for the actual software itself.

While initially developed and deployed for use in sales force automation and customer relationship management, the use of SaaS has since expanded and can be used for a variety of other business tasks, including but not limited to, supply chain management, accounting, groupware, and human resource management.  The software needed for some of these tasks may require expensive servers and other complicated network infrastructure. SaaS applications have helped reduce or eliminate some of these expenditures.

Some of the main benefits include:
  1. Smaller upfront investment as it eliminates the need to purchase expensive hardware and software.
  2. Quicker implementation. Most SaaS applications are ready to use in weeks, not months. The customer begins to reap the benefits immediately.
  3. The ability to manage activities from central locations rather than individual sites.  Customers are able to access these applications directly from the Internet.
  4. Centralized software updates and minimal maintenance required. The vendor is responsible for maintaining the servers, allowing management to concentrate on the core focus of their business. Customers also enjoy seamless upgrades that are deployed simultaneously across the entire cloud.
  5. Pricing flexibility. SaaS applications typically operate on a pay-as-you-go model. Different pricing structures are offered depending on the application and how it needs to be used.
A few of the most popular SaaS applications include:
  • Salesforce CRM
  • Google Documents Suite
  • Intuit QuickBooks Online
  • Constant Contact Email Marketing
  • Microsoft Office Web Apps
  • Apple's MobileMe
Software as a Service is seen at the latest revolution in software deployment. Our own ConcreteGo.com has been developed because of this continuing trend, and it is very successful because it gives concrete producers a way to instantly reduce costs and increase productivity. It eliminates the need for expensive servers and network infrastructure, along with the expensive IT personnel typically required to maintain such equipment.

ConcreteGo.com New Feature Highlight

Simple New Order

A key function of dispatch software is to expedite the order taking process.  As we were developing ConcreteGo, many of the dispatchers we talked to complained about the order entry process that other dispatch software solutions use.  The complaints were that there were too many steps involved and too many screens that had to be gone through in order to enter an order in these other systems. That is why we created the Simple New Order to speed the order entry process.

Everything you need to create a Simple New Order is on one screen.  In addition, you can set up scheduling defaults to further expedite the order.  Just because the process was simplified does not mean that the Simple New Order lacks robust features.  The Simple New Order makes full use of features that we've highlighted previously for the newsletter like the clickable Order Map that utilizes a point and click interface to find delivery addresses and the Travel Estimate feature that utilizes internet mapping and routing to estimate delivery time across a user defined grid that compensates for average truck speed and seasonal and local traffic patterns.  In addition, many of the fields are enabled with an auto complete function that helps the user to find customers, projects, and items quickly.

There is no limit to the amount of items on the order.  Items can be added quickly by filling in the available fields and when those fields run out just add more by clicking on the insert button.  The Simple New Order also features additional buttons that allow the user access to other order properties when needed, such as automatic charges, pricing, taxes, hold quantities, pouring methods, usages, user defined fields, sales information, and more.

Service Q&A with Dani

Some of you may or may not be aware: Our lead service tech Dani has decided to move back to Spain with his wife and newborn daughter. He resigned in late spring and officially moved back during the summer.

He writes:

"It has been a really wonderful experience working with Sysdyne for the past 2.5 years; I've learned a lot from all of you and I'm gonna miss you guys sooooo much. Also, I'm really grateful to have had the opportunity to work with all of you: Jill, Derek, Donnie, Bo, Jianfei, Bill, Terry, Dennis, Alex, Marusi Bros, Dan Salamone, Wayne... and all the customers I've met among those years. The main reason for me going back to Spain was my daughter. My wife and I considered that it would be best for her since all our family live there. Don't worry, I'm leaving everybody in really good hands, Juan Carlos!! Sysdyne always goes far and beyond in order to achieve customer satisfaction, which is always the first priority!

Take care and... fins aviat!!!"

Next issue, we will resume our Service Q&A section as well as introduce everyone to our new technician, Juan Carlos!. You'll also have a chance to meet him at ConExpo if you are attending.
