The North Texas Twister

Arlington/Grapevine studios

November, 2011

Welcome from Stacey
stacey hed shot

Your heart is pounding, your face is a shade of red you hardly recognize, your hair is plastered to your face. You look at  your yoga instructor, mumbling under your breath "this can't be yoga". You barely remember your name, your eyes are bloodshot, and the pregnant woman to your right is making you look bad. You're receiving a serious whooping and is that sweat or tears?  And then it hits you....you've found a new home.

Welcome to Bikram Yoga North Texas.  Y'all come join us!

Online testimonials

Our brand spankin' new website now includes a page where you can add your own story or testimonial about the power of Bikram yoga. Let's face it, we all come to the room in various stages of discontent and angst (whether we realize it at the time or not) but when the yoga transforms us, we want to tell the world about how we're now diggin' our existance (without the use of mind altering substances).   We want to hear those stories!  Just go to the "community" section and click on "share your success story" in the drop down menu. Follow the easy directions and you, too, can offer your take on how you got to the hot room and what it's done for your mind, body and life since then.  Your input is a valuable part of what makes Bikram Yoga North Texas so great so please, tell us all about yourself.

Ho, Ho, Ho yogis (and all you Santa wannabes):

We're going to give you the best reason you've ever had to dress up like Santa and run 3.2 miles!  It's the great Bikram Yoga North Texas Santa Run Team and we're waiting for YOU to sign up.  We've got the details below so read on.

Also, coming soon, the Arlington studio will feature an Open House for all of the friends and family members you know who have been giving you excuses about why they just can't make it to the hot room.  That's right, on December 3, tell your peeps to "walk their talk" and join you in the hot room.  We'll have two special classes for beginners, chair massages, Nutrition Addiction samples, yoga clothing specials and lots more so bring your reluctant (or bikram curious) loved ones.

Yoginis who would like to take the 8:30 beginner class and then the 10:15 a.m. advanced class with senior most bikram teacher Emmy Cleaves Friday, November 11, can still sign up for these two classes online at www.bikramyogawomensretreat.com for $50.  The classes are part of the Bikram Yoga Women's Retreat this weekend in Westlake but sadly, registration is now closed for the seminar.

Come meet the Jannis, student(s) of the month, and new yogis to the Arlington studio.  They rediscovered the joys of hauling trash to the curb without pain!

Last (but definitely not least), the Arlington studio is full of delicious holiday smells as the Zen Kitchen fires up two more classes with Thanksgiving and Christmas delights.  Don't miss your chance to learn how to make an entire holiday meal on your own or just show up and let us cook for you instead.  It's no guilt eating because everything is plant based and low fat.  Your bloodstream will thank you!  Check out the video link at the bottom of the newsletter for a quick video on making mini pumpkin pies with your kids.

It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas!

Arlington studio holds Open House for beginners Dec.3

We're catering to the newbies on December 3 in Arlington so check your short list of people who have been putting you off with excuse after excuse of WHY they can't possibly make it to yoga and bring them to one of our free beginner classes.  The first class is at 10 a.m. and the second one at 12:30 p.m. and each class will be a slower, more instructive version complete with certified instructors demonstrating poses.  It's all specially suited for first timers. Regular classes at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. will occur as usual.

To sweeten the deal, we'll have Nutrition Addiction in the lobby providing free samples, sales on retail clothing and items, free chair massages by Advance Bodywork and Massage and deals on yoga packages.  Can't wait to see you and your posse so start prepping them now for the start of big change waiting for them on December 3!

Student(s) of the Month:  Don and Carol Janni

The Jannis had successfully avoided exercise for "many, many years" but were unhappy at the aches and pains they lived with on a daily basis and were looking for a way out.  The way, for them, was the BYNT hot room and seven months and one challenge later, they're believers.

"My life... every time I needed to walk a distance, climb stairs, haul the trash to the curb, basically do anything physical, I was constantly reminded that it doesn't pay not to exercise and had not for exercised for years, " said Don.

The couple practices three to five times a week and says they are stronger, more flexible, have more energy and even feel more confident.  They have "learned how to sweat" and their family remarks constantly about how much younger they look and act.

"I can stand on one foot while putting on socks. When backing the car, I can sling my arm over the seat and twist around to look out the back window just as easily as I did it in high school. It took us 10 sessions to finally get acclimated to the temperatures but once we did, room temp was a non-issue," Don said.

Even though the couple started practicing originally to lose weight and get more "physically fit," the friendships they've deveoped at the Arlington studio have been the most valuable benefit of all.  They said they feel a "sense of cameraderie" with the students and teachers there and are very happy to be part of BYNT.

We're glad you're a part of BYNT, too, Don and Carol!  Welcome!

Santa Fun Run Team forming now at BYNT

running santas

Santa Claus is coming to town to take a bikram yoga class but did you know he's agreed to run a 5K, too?  Join the BYNT team (and Santa) on Saturday, December 10, for the North Texas Great Santa 5K Run in Plano.  Not only will we be running in full Santa outifts, we're going to throw down one of the meanest Triangle poses ever (on camera) to set a record for most Santas in Triangle Pose!

It's easy to join!  Just go to www.santaruntexas.org and follow the registration instructions.  You'll be redirected to active.com where you can sign in if you have an account or create a new account.  Select the "JOIN A TEAM" option from the registration menu and then choose "Bikram Yoga North Texas" from the drop down menu.

When you finalize your payment, enter the code bynt2011 to receive a $5 per runner discount for joining our team.  Pick up your race packet and Santa Suit from Luke's Locker at The Shops at Legacy in Plano the week prior to the event or on race morning.  Proceeds from the race will benefit Adults with Disabilities at www.mypossibilities.org so you have an even BETTER reason to join us other than just having fun on a December Saturday morning.

If you have questions about registration, contact Julie Carey at Julie@bikramyoganorthtexas.com and she'll help with answers.   Look for Bikram Yoga North Texas and My Possibilities on Facebook!

Zen Kitchen cranks out veg meals, stories of healing!    vegan holiday plate

The table is set with candles, flowers, place settings and amazing low fat, delicious vegan food in the Zen Kitchen.  The only thing missing is YOU!

The word is out and it's a good one.  Our cooking class students are reaping the health benefits of this yummy food while learning how to heal themselves with their own kitchen appliances.  Angela's (last names are withheld to keep the paparrazzi away) bad cholesterol levels dropped 40 points and Andrea's husband has lost 85 pounds (since June). Even Sherry and her husband are enjoying much less arthritis pain from the simple healing properties of plants.  Will's Diabetes Type 2 is no longer evident in his blood tests and he's so happy, he's started a vegan blog about it.  You, too, can start to transition your diet easily.  We'll show you how.

We had a fantastic turn out for the first Thanksgiving cooking class and are quickly filling the second class on November 19.  If the thought of spending hours cooking yet another turkey this year makes you break out in a sweat worse than the bikram class you took yesterday, call NOW and reserve your place at our table where dinner is healthy and already cooked for you.  Bring your friends and family and make it a festive occasion where you don't have to cook OR feel guilty about the fat and sugar you normally consume at Grandma's house.

We'll show you how to make an entire plant based holiday meal (for Thanksgiving or for Christmas) or maybe just bring an interesting side dish or two to the in-laws house.  The early bird special price of $55 for an entire meal (including dessert and beverage) is only good through November 13 so don't delay.

The Christmas class will be held on Saturday, December 17, at the usual time of 12:15 to 1:45 p.m.  Early bird price of $55 is good through December 11.  The price after the early bird cut off dates for both classes will be $65.  HURRY! Even though we'd love to have more people in the Zen Kitchen, we can only comfortably seat 12.

You can take control of your diet and be your own best health advocate!  Learn to finally make friends with your body and reverse the chronic health issues you've been dealing with for too long.  Call either front desk 817-784-YOGA or 817-416-YOGA to register for either class NOW.  See you in the kitchen!

Here's a fun video for you, your kids and all of the "kids at heart" this Thanksgiving season to get started on holiday plant based cooking.  Tis the season to eat lots and lots of PUMPKIN!
Namaste (and Happy Thanksgiving!)
