Welcome from Stacey
stacey hed shot

Your heart is pounding, your face is a shade of red you hardly recognize, your hair is plastered to your face. You look at  your yoga instructor, mumbling under your breath "this can't be yoga". You barely remember your name, your eyes are bloodshot, and the pregnant woman to your right is making you look bad. You're receiving a serious whooping and is that sweat or tears?  And then it hits you....you've found a new home.

Welcome to Bikram Yoga North Texas.  Y'all come join us!

Online testimonials

Our brand spankin' new website now includes a page where you can add your own story or testimonial about the power of Bikram yoga. Let's face it, we all come to the room in various stages of discontent and angst (whether we realize it at the time or not) but when the yoga transforms us, we want to tell the world about how we're now diggin' our existance (without the use of mind altering substances).   We want to hear those stories!  Just go to the "community" section and click on "share your success story" in the drop down menu. Follow the easy directions and you, too, can offer your take on how you got to the hot room and what it's done for your mind, body and life since then.  Your input is a valuable part of what makes Bikram Yoga North Texas so great so please, tell us all about yourself.

Hey there loyal yogis (and Cowboy fans):

This month, you have a chance to not only check out the amazing Cowboys' Stadium up close and personal, you can also take a Bikram class there on Friday, September 23, led by world champ Joseph Encinia and see yourself busting a perfect yoga move on the jumbotron.  Oh, and did we mention...the $35 you'll spend on the ticket will help children at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas?  It's a win-win!

Also, this month and next, you can experience a transitional fall plant based cooking class that focuses on ancient grains and roots to help calm your stressed out life, jump into a free Q & Asana workshop to perfect your practice, start a 60 day challenge to improve your focus and body image or register for the Bikram Yoga Women's Retreat right around the corner in November.  We know we have at least ONE event that will fit into your schedule so check out the happenings in Grapevine and Arlington and have a fantastic October!

Bring on the Fall weather!

Get calm, centered with ancient grains and rootsgrains class

With autumn around the corner (hey, we can dream, right?), our seasonal meals have already begun to change. At farmers markets and grocery stores here, you can see the abundance of the Fall season. Hearty root vegetables are everywhere and will offer your body a bounty of healing benefits as we prepare for the winter months ahead.

The roots of any plant are its foundation; roots support and nourish the plant.  Root veggies offer you these same properties, making you feel grounded both emotionally and physically and increasing your stamina and endurance. Roots are a source of nutritious complex carbohydrates, providing long lasting energy and helping to regulate your blood sugar levels, too. Root vegetables also help us to absorb and assimilate the nutrients we eat, just as they absorb and assimilate vital nutrients for plants.

Come join us in Arlington in the Zen Kitchen for cooking class #6 which will explore root veggies and ancient grains, a richer source of nutrients than modern grains because they have not been "bred" to change their nutritional profile.  They are the same grains prior civilizations used to eat (such as the Aztecs) for their "super hero" qualities.  Quinoa, for instance, has 50% more protein than common grains and higher levels of calcium, phosphorus, iron and B vitamins naturally.

Class begins at 12:15 and ends at 1:45 after a lively lecture/discussion, cooking demonstration and yummy samples of each dish.  Arlington studio Zen Kitchen on Saturday, October 8st at 12:15.  You can take control of your diet and be your own best health advocate!  Learn to finally make friends with your kitchen appliances!  Call either front desk 817-784-YOGA or 817-416-YOGA to register now but hurry...the early bird price of $45 is only good through October 2 and space is limited, regular price is $55.  See you in the kitchen!

Bikram yoga comes to Cowboy Stadium this Friday!cowboy yoga

Sidle up to the yoga mat, pardner, and throw down a mean Triangle this Friday during Cowboy Stadium Yoga Day when hundreds of metroplex yogis will gather for a massive class led by World Champion bikram master Joseph Encinia.

The class on September 23 begins at 7:30 p.m. but the doors open at 6 for a self guided tour, autographs, a yoga demonstration and a photo of your bad self stretched into your favorite pose on the Cowboys' 50 yard line star.  All this fun for only $35 and for a good cause, too.  Encinia, who grew up as a frequent patient at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas (with childhood rheumathoid arthritis), is leading the event as a fundraiser for the hospital.

Please contact Alia Short to order tickets at 817.892.4665 or email ashort@dallascowboys.net.  Discount prices are available for groups of 20 or more.

Student of the Month:  Blair Chozen
 blair

For most of us, the thought of living in Maui and running races in our spare time would be heavenly.  Not contending with Loop 12 traffic, three digit hellish summer drought or Tony Romo's injuries.  A dream come true!

For this months' Student of the Month, Blair Chozen, however, the constant physical pain he dealt with on a daily basis seriously detracted from life in paradise.

"Before I started practicing frequently, I had back pain that I couldn't get rid of, my muscles were tight, neck cocked forward, shoulders hunched, and I had a few pounds to shed," Chozen said.

Even though Chozen was living his life as an athlete, he knew the pain he was suffering each day was not optimum.  He said it was "curiosity" that sent him to Bikram yoga, but it was the excellent physical and mental changes he experienced, that kept him going back.

"It's really amazing how you notice one thing after another change and how your troubles slowly disappear.  I've noticed my neck is closer to proper alignment, shoulders have rolled back, my upper torso has lengthened, all muscles are toning and showing definition and I can see the muscles in my stomach again," Chozen said. "The back pain is long gone."

The best thing about practicing five to six times a week, he says, is that family and friends regularly tell him how great he looks and how maybe they should start practicing Bikram yoga.

"I sometimes laugh throughout the day thinking about the motivational instruction and I hear it in my head 'Come back and push, Go back and push, Go back and push, Go back and Push' and "Lock the knees, lock the knees, LOCK the Knees!" Chozen said.

Q & Asana workshops answer yoga questions for FREE

martian yoga

How many times have you been agonizing in Standing Head to Knee wondering why, oh why, you can't seem to kick your leg out for more than three seconds at a time without falling onto your mat like a klutz?  The answer, faithful yogis, is just one of many that will be provided at two upcoming free posture clinics with veteran yogini Stacey Stier.  Now, is your chance to ask the questions that have been burning a hole in your yoga brain during a 60 minute FREE workshop on Saturday, September 24 in the Grapevine studio from 12 to 1 p.m. and again on Saturday, October 1 at the Arlington studio from 12 to 1 p.m.

Don't miss your chance to ask our resident expert and studio owner any and everything about yoga that you're desperate to know but were afraid to ask (without sounding like a dork).  See you there!

Kate & Stella's "Pranayama Pet Corner"lex and dogs
Many times, there is no one better in our world to teach us the power of breath than our fur children.  They lay on their dog beds and kitty pillows with complete abandon and trust...breathing slowly and calmly while utter chaos erupts around them.  Vacuum cleaners, dish washers, loud human children, blaring TV's and hail beating on the doors and windows matter not.  Our pets know how to CHILLAX!

As you can see from the picture above, Kathryn Lorusso's household has no shortage of black canines and in fact, has three dogs to offer up for this month's pet corner (Lexi, the human child in the center, is not part of the pack).

The two draped on the couch are (from left) Phantom, 3 year old male greyhound and Sandra Lee, 5 year old female greyhound...both rescues from the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT).  Queen Chloe, laying on the floor, is a 13 year old standard poodle in charge of the other two.  When Phantom and Sandra Lee are not racing around the backyard after squirrels, "de-stuffing" squeaky toys or terrorizing random birds who make the mistake of landing in the birdbath, they can be found doing what they truly do best...sleeping.  They take the word "retirement" seriously and have put their former racing days long behind them.  Chloe, on the other hand, now seriously visually challenged but in denial, rules the roost and keeps everyone in line (especially the humans living in the house.)  Very few people ever show up on Kathryn's front porch without calling first!

Babies can teach yoga, too!

In case we all take ourselves too seriously from time to time, here's a video reminding us that life hands us "teachers" in all sizes, shapes and forms.  All we need to do is pay attention.  They're all around us and the lessons await.
Namaste,
