Arlington/Grapevine studios

April, 2011

Welcome from Stacey
stacey hed shot

Your heart is pounding, your face is a shade of red you hardly recognize, your hair is plastered to your face. You look at  your yoga instructor, mumbling under your breath "this can't be yoga". You barely remember your name, your eyes are bloodshot, and the pregnant woman to your right is making you look bad. You're receiving a serious whooping and is that sweat or tears?  And then it hits you....you've found a new home.

Welcome to Bikram Yoga North Texas.  Y'all come join us!

Hey there loyal yogis!

This is an exciting time at Bikram Yoga North Texas.  The Arlington studio is wrapping up construction and will open any day now.  As many of you know, I never dreamed of being an entrepreneur.  However, it's a testimony to the power of Bikram Yoga that this girl who loves the safety and security of "knowing"  has now fully embraced a life of uncertainty and risk.   I have learned through this yoga practice that life is about the journey and that feeling alive means living full out.  We all are granted with the gift of unlimited possibilities and I wish for all you that you take risks and live a life you love.  This new studio is only possible because of you.  Without yogis,  there is no yoga.  From my head to my toes, from my bones to my skin, all over, inside out,  I thank you for supporting Bikram Yoga Grapevine and for sharing your beautiful spirits with me every day.  This is a new beginning.  I hope you enjoy the new studio in Arlington.  I've tried to create a space that will make you smile and feel at home.  Read on for more details about all of the exciting changes happening at Bikram Yoga North Texas.

With Sincere Gratitude,

Nama-Stacey

Arlington studio set to open!
bikram yoga arlingtonAfter months of waiting and anticipation, Bikram Yoga Arlington is mere days away from opening.  The construction team is applying the finishing touches so we may receive a green light from the City of Arlington to open our doors to the anxiously waiting yogis.  As the second studio owned by Stacey Stier comes on line, there are many changes at both studios that you can look forward to experiencing. Perhaps, the most exciting event coming up will be a possible Bikram Yoga North Texas field trip where we will request the attendance of our beloved Grapevine students to take the first class at the new studio where you will be the first to anoint the yoga room with your sweat.  We love the energy of the Grapevine community so much we want to do everything we can to be sure that great energy reverberates through the Arlington location.

The first thing you might notice about the Arlington studio are the high tech physical aspects such as the warm colored paint and tiles as you enter.  In the yoga room, students will immediately appreciate the state of the art heating system which uses ultraviolet rays to kill germs in the air and then completely recirculate it every 20 minutes.  The flooring in the new studio (and soon to Grapevine) will be anti-microbial medical grade, as well.  The Arlington studio will even have way cool laundry chutes for wet towels (it's the little things in life :))

Staff changes include instructor Suzann Johnson's promotion to studio manager, congratulate her next time you see her.  No one is more deserving of this recognition and promotion, BYNT loves The Suz. You will also notice FOUR new happy, smiling faces at the front desk---- all practicing yogis.  Paul Eichelberger, Stacey Stewart, Yasmine Saba and Kali Trout will now be on hand to eagerly check students in and answer phones at both studios.

To celebrate the opening of the Arlington studio, new students will be able to take advantage of unlimited yoga for 30 days for $40, then a whopping 50% off the first month if you sign up for the auto debit plan during your introductory month.  We're so close to UTA in Arlington that we didn't want to leave out the young starving students.  We now offer a "student" rate but be sure and bring your current tuition receipt and valid ID, that's the only way to receive the mind blowing discounts.

Changes to the website are also coming fast and furious.  The new website address is www.bikramyoganorthtexas.com  and will serve both studio locations.

Lastly,  an incredible array of new Breathe mats and Kulae towels in all of the newest, grooviest colors will also be available as well as lots of new yoga wear by Prana, Shakti and Yogabella.  A new studio deserves new yoga clothes so check out the great spring lines.  Stay tuned for more information and make your plans now to drive over and see us in Arlington.  We can't wait to see y'all!

Two yogis head to training
teacher training Ife Togun and Brad Lambert are on their way to Los Angeles to become bikram yoga teachers next month just in time to help out with the new studio and thrill us all with their own unique styles of teaching.  If the two men survive 9 weeks in Bikram Choudhury's "torture chamber," we can expect to begin taking their classes some time in June when the summer days are almost approximating the same heat as the yoga room.

Besides meeting other very cool yogis, the two men will learn about asana, anatomy, therapeutic applications and health benefits of Yoga, nutrition, philosophy of Yoga, Bikram's Posture Clinic, and the Bikram Yoga dialogue.  A typical day at the Teacher Training starts at 8 a.m. and lasts until at least midnight including two daily Bikram Yoga classes.  Mandatory attendance is required at all classes, posture clinics and lectures.

We wish these two courageous yogis luck and love and can't wait to see them certified and teaching at the new studio!

Easy beta carotene butternut squash soup
bnut squash soupAs yogi athletes, we can never get enough beta carotene, anti-oxident nutrients into our bodies so here's a quick way to get some without spending an eternity in the kitchen or sacrificing taste.

BUTTERNUT SQUASH CREAM SOUP
6 cups cubed butternut squash (without the skin)
5 cups water
     1/2 tsp. sea salt
     1/2 cup ricemilk or soymilk
1 tbsp. mirin (rice cooking wine)
     pinch cayenne pepper to taste
     1/2 cup chopped parsley
Bring the squash, water and salt to boil in a large pot.  Reduce the heat to mediumn low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until tender.

Reserving the cooking liquid, transfer the squash with a slotted spoon to a blender or food processor.  Add the "milk" and about 2 cups of cooking liquid and puree until smooth.

Return the pureed ingredients to the pot and add as much of the remaining cooking liquid as needed to achieve the desire consistency.  Add the mirin and cayenne pepper.  Reheat if necessary.

Garnish with parsley and ENJOY!!  Daily veggie and miso soups are also a great way to keep hydrated.

Thank you for being such a big part of this exciting change process at Bikram Yoga North Texas.  We couldn't have done it without your daily enthusiasm, love and support.  The future looks very bright for all of us!  As a last nod of encouragement and an example of what is possible with the magic of Bikram Yoga, here's a link to Joseph Encinia's winning routine at the 2011 National Yoga Championship competition.  The first step in achieving greatness is believing that you CAN.
