BYG Halloween Newsletter
Dear Yogis and Yoginis:

We've got lots of "veddy skeddy" happenings in the studio this month including hilarious wall decorations, a costume contest, daily "pumpkin prana trivia" during savasana with prizes for the right answers, and much more.  This month, we're also featuring our first student "interview" and free yoga for students on the auto debit program.  So, instead of eating all of the leftover Halloween candy in the dish by the front door, drag your bones into the hot room and have some fun with us.

Sincerely,

Stacey Stier

Yogini trains for hip surgery:
Birth defect blamed for deterioration
peggy
For 10 years, Peggy Giesler knew she had "something going on" in her hip but it wasn't until this past March when she had an x-ray that she realized a hip replacement was in her future. Severe arthritis, multiple bone spurs and serious deterioration had set in because of an old birth defect she had never known she'd had.  Peggy was born with a hip socket that was too small for the head of her femur bone. Instead of getting mad or scared at the prognosis, though, she got serious and began training for surgery.

"It just made my hip feel better...especially when I was doing doubles," she said.

So much better, in fact, that Peggy did three 60 day challenges back to back this year including frequent doubles.  "I was coming to class between 9 and 11 times a week,"  she said. "When I took a second class in the afternoon, it really helped open up my hip.  Basically, it lifted me out of the pain."

Peggy became aware of the problem about 10 years ago with her first bikram yoga class.  The initial class coincided with a surgery and between the two events, she was wracked with pain and not sure why.  "I was very hesitant to come back to yoga," she said.  Yet, Peggy did return to yoga and began to see a little relief from the pain.  "It just made my hip feel better especially when I was doing doubles."

Post surgery, Peggy has been told she should be able to participate in the floor series within two months and can be sitting a chair in the room for the standing series even earlier than that.  She credits her increased stamina and strength from yoga and is looking forward to returning to her practice as soon as possible.

"I will be back much faster than I thought," Peggy said, and we'll be looking forward to her happy, smiling face again, too.  We wish her all the best and are always happy to report another successful physical accomplishment with bikram yoga!

Looking for the best costume!
chicken death yoga
On October 30, the studio will feature a costume contest during each class with the winners receiving a $30 gift card to spend as they wish on merchandise or toward classes.

How creative can you be?  Last year, the teachers went wild with their costumes and wowed everyone but this year, we're looking for students who can throw down a mean Standing Head to Knee while looking like a zombie or whip out a serious Standing Bow dressed as Cinderella.  Come dressed as your favorite movie star or even a local celebrity (Lance Armstrong?) but come prepped and ready to have a seriously fun class in the hot room.

Seasons change and so do we:
As we near the end of the year, it's always our fantastic students and the important life changes you've experienced with bikram yoga that we think and talk about.  Being able to see your smiling faces both in and out of the yoga room and watch you all transform is the greatest gift we can hope for every day.  We're so proud of you and hope you realize we look forward to hearing your testimonies just as much as we love helping you through the more challenging times.

Namaste!
