LACHSA
Principal's Message
October 9th, 2011
Greetings!

I often say, "LACHSA is a better school when the school and parents work together."

The devotion that parents and families bring to the success of a school can yield a powerful pool of talent, energy, and expertise.  At LACHSA, this pool is in abundance.  As October rolls forwards the importance of this partnership has never been truer.

October 21st features LACHSA's 2nd Annual Walk for the Arts.  This is truly a community-wide event featuring every student and faculty member--arts and academic-and numerous family members walking to raise funds for LACHSA and awareness for the importance of arts education.

Last year's event was one of the most successful fundraising events in the school's history and this year's walk hopes to surpass it.  Every dime of these funds are directed towards LACHSA's arts programs.  We have less that two weeks to go and I want to encourage every student and family member to pull together for this year's Walk for the Arts.

This year, LACHSA will be joined by several Walk for the Arts Grand Marshalls.  These Grand Marshalls will stand in solidarity with LACHSA in the spirit of supporting arts education and will help us kick off the walk.  Our Grand Marshall partners represent numerous arts institutions including the Music Center, Center Theatre Group, and the Los Angeles Theatre Center.

On behalf of the entire LACHSA community, I wish to thank the following parents for their leadership with the LACHSA Walk for the Arts:  Lauren Landress, Connie Hall, Steven Seligman, Tamera O'Hara, Michelle Higgs, Tristan Brightly, Ooty Moorehead, Jennifer Miranda, Valerie Milano, Michele russo, Pam Andreas, Leslie Kaplan, and Juan Gomez.

Our parents have also worked to coordinate college visits for our students.  October 14th features USC and their arts colleges.  During our late-start Friday, admissions representatives from USC will be stationed in King Hall to meet with students and family members.  After last year's visit, 9 LACHSA students in a graduating class of 140 were admitted to USC making it a top desitination for many of our students.

In the afternoon of October 24th, several admissions reps from arts colleges, conservatories will visit LACHSA to meet students and tour our campus.  Capitalizing on the Performing and Visual Arts College Fair at UCLA, a number of admissions representatives will be local and have made LACHSA one of their admissions stops.  This takes place from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. and is geared primarily for junior and seniors.  Confirmed participants include NYU, Tisch, Columbia College, Berklee College of Music, Sarah Lawrence, and Bennington College.

This is a  tremendous opportunity for our students to meet representatives and ask essential questions in their preparation for the college admissions process.

I continue to draw inspiration from the passion and dedication of our parent community.  We all have as our goal the best LACHSA possible.  An effective partnership with parents is essential as we continue to build a better LACHSA.
