August 29th, 2011
Greetings!

The countdown to LACHSA's 2nd Annual Walk for the Arts is on!

As budget cuts and economic uncertainty wear on schools and communities across the country, we at LACHSA have risen to face these unprecedented challenges.  Our community of artists-scholars has come together in the spirit of unity to embrace the arts as essential.

LACHSA's 2nd annual Walk for the Arts is our call to action.  As our largest single fundraising event, LACHSA Walk for the Arts energizes our students and families as we raise necessary funds to sustain the world class arts programs for which LACHSA is known.  Driven by the unyielding support of our parent community, our first walk raised more than $60K and this year, with 100% student and parent participation, we will raise even more!  Our LACHSA Parent Council in partnership with Arts High Foundation, has been hard at work since last Spring to make this year's walk bigger and better than ever!

I urge each of you to read the letter below by our LACHSA Parent Council and plan your support of arts at LACHSA!  Thank you as always for your continued support of LACHSA and I look forward to seeing you on October 21st.  Let's walk!

Sincerely,

Dear LACHSA Parents:

Last year,
LACHSA launched its first ever, wildly successful LACHSAWalk for the Arts, in which students were joined by faculty, administration, foundation, parents, and friends, and raised more than $60,000.

In the face of continuing severe budget cuts - more than $1 million alone in state funding in the last year - the purpose of this event is to restore dollars directly into each art department, so that our students continue to receive the instruction and support that has made our school (and many of its students!) famous.  Our goal for this year is to raise $120,000!

A View from our first LACHSA Walk for the Arts 2010!

LACHSA's second annual LACHSA Walk for the Arts will take place on Friday, October 21, and we deeply encourage your involvement.  As fellow parents, we urge you to support your son or daughter to get pledges for this critical fundraiser. The LACHSAWalk for the Arts drive officially begins on September 6, but you can start soliciting donations now by going to www.lachsa.walkforthearts.org to find out more about the LACHSA Walk for the Arts and to download donation forms and instructions.

We'd like to suggest that you take some time with your student to make a list of friends, family, and co-workers who are potential donors.  Decide how you are going to contact them for donations - phone, email, post - and then let the fun begin!

Many students have found success by making their pledge letters personal.  If you're sending emails, you may want to suggest to your child to write a short paragraph on why LACHSA and the arts are important to her or him.  One music student, for example, made a short video of himself playing his music and attached it to an email, asking friends/family to invest in his future.

All the materials you need for the LACHSA Walk for the Arts can be downloaded from www.lachsa.walkforthearts.org.

With everyone working together, we can do it!
