The documents on lachsa.net under academics will help facilitate and inform your conversations and decisions.  Please use the course offerings guide  to help visually map out a successful graduation plan.  The electives guide  includes descriptions and requirements for classes outside of our core academic disciplines.  Finally,  the honors and AP guide includes detailed information about eligibility requirements for these advanced courses.  

Notes for Rising Sophomore Parents: (current 9^th grade parents)

10^th grade is an intense year for LACHSA students in which they transition from five to six academic classes.  Please know that during the 10^th grade year students focus on fulfilling their core academic requirements so that they can enroll in electives during their 11^th and 12^th grade years.   

Students who are interested in Honors English 10 should select this course.  The English team and the Academic Dean will review students' grades and their performance on an in class assessment administered during the week of April 11 in order to determine eligibility.

Students who take leadership or successfully audition for musical theatre will fulfill their physical education requirement as upperclassmen.

Highlights for Rising Junior Parents: (current 10^th grade parents)

Most current sophomores will select one elective class for next year.  Please see our list of updated electives.

Advanced placement classes are also introduced in the junior year.   Advanced Placement (AP)  classes offer students the opportunity to pursue college-level studies while still in high school.   AP courses make substantial demands on students.  Students are required to complete considerable outside reading and additional, complex assignments. Students are also expected to demonstrate the analytical skills and writing abilities expected of first-year students in a strong college program.  As a result, counselor approval is required for registration for more than two AP classes. Please note, students who take AP classes are also required to take the corresponding end of course advanced placement exam.

Finally, as students have already engaged in planning meetings with Ms. Dilullo, please reference a copy of the four-year plan.    

Congratulations Rising Senior Parents: (current 11^th grade parents)

You have almost made it; your juniors will soon be the leaders of our school! 

Senior year offers a range of privileges and responsibilities that are meant to help our young artist-scholars transition to a successful first year in a college or conservatory program.

Seniors are permitted to register for up to two free periods in which they can work in the library or at Dolcinis on their course work or their college application process.  Students who study AP courses are encouraged to sign up for a corresponding free period to allow for the necessary time to complete the additional complex coursework.

Seniors are also given the opportunity to expand their leadership roles  and earn community service hours.   Students who have excelled in one or more academic area are able to provide peer tutoring and counseling to 9^th graders in supported study halls.  Our young scholars will also engage in trainings and retreats throughout the school year to develop their leadership skills. Interested students should sign up for LACHSA Scholars.

Other New Opportunities to Note: 

•  leadership class  is expanding to offer increased opportunities for more students to serve as ambassadors of LACHSA.  This is one avenue that affords students an opportunity to play integral role in shaping our school community.  

• There is a new math course, Probability & Statistics, in the course selection options.  If there is sufficient student interest, we hope to offer this advanced mathematics elective as an alternative to the AP Calculus track (i.e., Trigonometry, Mathematical Analysis, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC). We invite many of our non-calculus students to continue high school mathematics after Second-Year Algebra.
