We are so excited to welcome
you at our upcoming LACHSA Summer Academy for incoming students on August 24, 25, and 26th! I would like to take this
opportunity to remind you about some of the logistics and expectations. The ID PROJECT In preparation for the academy
you have an assignment that requires some reflection and gathering of
materials: 1)
Please think about the varied components that make up your identity: · Who are you? · What is important to you? · What contributes to your identity? You might think about family, talents, physical or
personality attributes, interests, neighborhood and personal history. 2)
Next, begin gathering pictures and or symbols to use in an identity -box to
represent who you are. 3)
Finally, you will need to acquire a box, a shoe-box or similar sized box, with
which to create your identity box.
Don't
worry we will create the identity box during the academy and you will receive
more specific instructions when we meet.
Your job is to begin thinking about what differentiates you from others,
gather materials, and bring your box and materials to the Academy on
Tuesday, August 24th PACK
A LUNCH Please
note you are required to bring a brown bag lunch or money for the food court on
both Monday and Tuesday.
DRESS IN COMFORTABLE
(and cool) CLOTHES You will be walking around
campus and engaged in activities both inside and outside. Dress comfortably and bring sunscreen
and/or a hat. The predicted temperature for the academy will be unseasonably high, so it is important that students dress with "cool" in mind.
PARENTS - Should you come? The LACHSA Parent Council will be
standing by to welcome parents on Tuesday morning. This is not a required event, but rather a welcome session
and yet another opportunity to get to know our parent community and find out
how to get involved. We will also use this time
to organize a potluck celebrating the new students on August 26th at
12:45. Please think about what you
might like to bring. Another way to VOLUNTEER We have had many parents
request to help-thank you! Please know there will also be ample opportunities
to volunteer throughout the school year. Finally, one additional way you
can volunteer now is by donating materials for our identity project. We are in
need of more donations in the way of crafty resources: shiny paper, fabric,
cellophane paper, beads, ribbon, lace, sequins, glue guns, construction paper
etc. Magazines are also an easy
item to donate and we have received very few. You can donate materials at
the main office and drop them off on Tuesday
morning. I look forward to seeing you
on Tuesday, August 24th at 7:30 in front of Music 149, the choral
room. Sincerely, Cara Livermore Academic Dean |
