LACHSA
June 4th, 2010
Dear LACHSA Community,

We have all endured tremendous difficulty this year driven in large part by budget woes.  No aspect of our school has been left untouched--from faculty security to arts programs.   We can all  feel a sense of pride at our collective response to this year's adversity.  Parents, faculty, staff, and students have all responded to this difficulty not with self-serving acts, but with a sense of purpose infused with the larger view that we are in this together and together we will persevere.

As we close out this school year and prepare for the next, I can see already that perhaps our greatest challenge lies ahead.  Next year portends a budget climate that is more difficult than this year, indeed more difficult than LACHSA has ever faced.

We must summon our collective resolve, ensure that our core mission and priorities as an arts school are preserved, and above all else keep our students' interests at the heart of our actions.  I know that we will meet this challenge in characteristic LACHSA fashion; your support is needed now more than ever.

Next week you will each receive a letter of appeal signed by LACHSA's arts chairs and LACHSA parent representative and fundraising chair Bill Ratner.  This letter outlines LACHSA's budget difficulties and details our financial needs for the upcoming school year.  We need your financial support to ensure that our arts programs continue to be second-to-none.

Although appeal letters are generally sent at the opening of a school year, there is a sense of urgency at play here.  We are sending this letter now to ensure that funds are raised before next begins.  It is a very real possibility that some arts productions and events may not happen next year if sufficient funds are not raised.

The arts programs at LACHSA are indeed world class and I know that parents and students value the distinctive quality and legacy of success for which LACHSA is known.  Please consider supporting LACHSA's arts programs; your financial support is needed now more than ever to ensure our programs continue in the way you have come to expect.

I know that we will meet this challenge in the same way that we met the challenges of this past year.  Please look out for our appeal letter in the coming days and seriously consider a gift to our arts programs.  You financial support is urgently needed.  Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

George Simpson
LACHSA Principal
