I cannot overstate the importance of parent involvement to the success of students in schools. The research is both compelling and clear: when schools and families work together, students do better, parents become empowered, and teacher morale improves. In short, school get better. The LACHSA Parent Council has been one vehicle through which we have seen this partnership take root. The benefit to our students, as seen most recently with the overwhelming success of the SAT Bootcamp, for example, is unmistakable. The LACHSA Parent Council has floursihed in its first year of existence due in no small measure to the tireless dedication of its founding presdient, Ewa Martinoff.
Documenting the hours of meetings, phone calls, and home receptions in which Ewa has led would still not capture the impact of her year as presdient. She has questioned, advocated, and supported the students, parents, faculty and administration in all of her work throughout the past year. Through it all, Ewa has had her focus squarely on the best interests of the students at LACHSA. She has modeled for all of us how to engage selflessly, ceasingly, and in the true spirit of partnership. It is with that in sight that I dedicate this edition of the LACHSA Newsletter to the tremendous work that has begun under her leadership and will continue as the Parent Council begins its work this year. Our students, school, and community is better because of her work. Thank you.
Please join me in congratulating LACHSA's newly elected Parent Representatives!
