It's OVERSEEDING Time
What to Expect
 DEW HEADSHOT CARIC
Our winters are a great time to enjoy beautifully over-seeded turf areas.  I know - it's hard to think about winter but, the winter rye process has begaun.   TMLS will begin by de-thatching and scalping the existing turf.  Be prepared.....things will look ugly for a bit.  Because new seed cannot be allowed to dry out, watering times will be extended at all times of the day.  Within a few days of planting the seed you should see grass "pop".  In a matter of weeks the dark green rye grass is ready to enjoy.

We would ask all Homeowners and their pets to not walk on the newly planted seed for approximately 30 days or until we mow for the first time.  Due to the wet conditions of the ground during this time foot prints, bicycle tire tracks, etc. will create unattractive divots.  Remember, pet urine will burn the tender young grass turning it yellow/brown.

As soon as we can we will decrease the water to accommodate the needs of the new grass.  TMLS will monitor this process on a continual basis to ensure you receive the lush, deep green grass you deserve.

In the meantime, feel free to walk around the turf areas (not ON the turf areas) and flap your arms like a wild person.  Not only is this good cardio but you will help deter birds from eating all the seed.

LEESA CARICE-VERIFY
Tierra Madre CompliesE-VERIFY

Traditionally, immigration has been a federal issue.  However, Arizona, along with many other states, passed legislation to address immigration related issues. The Arizona law is known as the "Legal Arizona Worker Act" or "LAWA".

Effective January 1, 2008, LAWA requires ALL employers must use the E-Verify program to verify employment eligibility of all newly hired employees.  It is reported that a very small percentage of Arizona employers are actually registered users of the E-Verify program.  As a matter of fact, latest statistics showed that less than 1% of employers in the U.S. are participating.

Tierra Madre Landscape Services, Inc. proudly participates in the E-Verify program to ensure our employees are authorized to work in the United States.  The TMLS Management Team has attended numerous seminars to further ensure complete compliance with the many aspects of LAWA.

On July 4th, 2009, TMLS employee Jose Perales, celebrated his 1 year anniversary as a United States citizen.  Congratulations, Jose!  We are so proud of you.

For a complete listing of participating employers as of August, 2009, E-VERIFY LISTING 08-09 see Page 700 for TMLS.

What are "no blow" days?

Everyone needs to contribute to achieving healthy air. Despite all the efforts to date, the Valley still has not met the national public health standards.

Tierra Madre subscribes to ADEQ's text messaging service to inform people when a High Pollution Advisory (HPA) is being issued for the Greater Phoenix Area. We receive a text message on our cell phone by midafternoon the day before the HPA is issued.

Note that the following activities are illegal in AREA A during days when HPAs have been called for particulate matter:

  • Use of an off-highway vehicle (including an all-terrain vehicle or an off-road recreation motor vehicle) on an unpaved surface that is not a public or private road, street, or easement - except at designated locations and events where dust controls are in place.
  • City, Town, and County employees and contractors are prohibited from operating leaf blowers, except in vacuum mode, on days when a high pollution advisory has been issued. Residents and private contractors within the area are discouraged from using blowers on HPA days as well.
  • Residential wood burning, except in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-approved woodstoves and fireplace inserts or if it is the sole source of heat.
  • Recreational outdoor fires except fires used for cooking food or providing warmth for human beings.
As just one part of our green initiative, even though it is not mandatory, Tierra Madre does not use blowers when HPAs have been issued.
