November kicks off the holiday season, and Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. My husband, Dan, and I are hosting Thanksgiving, and my mouth just waters thinking about the menu! Besides the wonderful food and family that will adorn our table, I enjoy Thanksgiving because I have so much for which to be thankful.

Thankfulness and Gratitude
|
Gratitude is one of the highest states of emotion we can experience. It does not pay to take anything for granted. On my way to work each day I say out loud all of the things for which I am grateful. It is quite comforting. One of the things I am most grateful for is my sweet man Dan. This photo of Dan and me was taken at our wedding last June.
Melodie Beattie, author, journalist and teleplay writer shares her thoughts on gratitude. . .
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into
enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order,
confusion into clarity.... It turns problems into gifts, failures into
success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into
important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for
today and creates a vision for tomorrow.

NCHG's Silent Auction with Matthew Wood

AOMAM's New Website
|
The Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Association of Minnesota has just released its new website.
Minnesota's state association for acupuncture and Oriental medicine profession has just unveiled their new website.
Ruth Eaton headed up the Public Relations committee for the AOMAM, and they worked long and hard at crafting a beautiful and professional site. The AOMAM previously had a website, but it was lacking in vitality, information and usefulness. The new website, however, has something for everyone.
Ruth Eaton describes the new site. . .
"In
addition to timely Member information and resources, the new site also reaches
out to other audiences:
1.
The
General Public - The site helps people looking for health care options
for themselves and their families broaden their understanding of our timely
medicine and also makes it easy for them to find practitioners.
2.
Health
care providers - Provides members of other professions information on how
our medicine works and encourages them to explore how we might work together.
3.
Media
- We publish basic facts and resources and suggest story ideas for
digital, print, and broadcast media interested in producing a story on Oriental
medicine in Minnesota.
4.
Vendors
- Companies that would like to advertise with us or offer discount
programs to our members will find basic information and demographic data.
5.
Legislators
- Our organization participates in the legislative process; anyone
interested in this needs to understand our organization's background,
vision, mission, and legislative agenda."
As you can see, this is a great resource if you'd like to know more about acupuncture and Oriental medicine in Minnesota.

Breathing Tip
|
We're all affected by the stressors of everyday life - both big and small. Often times when we're under stress our breathing suffers, and the breath gets stuck in one's chest. By doing some intentional deep breathing, one can reset the nervous system from the sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous system to the parasympathetic (rest and digestion) nervous system.
The next time you feel your shoulders creeping up toward your ears try this simple breathing exercise:
- Sit up comfortably in your chair
- Relax your hands onto your thighs and touch the middle finger to the thumb
- Close your eyes and touch the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth in order to relax your jaw
- Now fill your chest with your breath and then invite your breath down to your lower abdomen
- As you exhale imagine your breath (and your stress) flowing out of the top of your shoulders
- Repeat 5-10 times and as often as necessary

Recipe of the Month
|
Shoyu Roasted Seeds
A healthy snack that is both crunchy and salty really does exist! The first time I saw this recipe from Recipes for Self Healing by Daverick Leggett I was a bit put off by the soy sauce, but I'm very glad that I made the recipe because they are so tasty and easy to make. They're great as snacks or sprinkled on soups, vegetables or grains. As always, chew seeds and nuts well in order to get the most nutrition from them. The Shoyu Roasted Seeds are great for the holidays too - either to take to parties or give as a gift in a decorative jar.

Remember to count your blessings, and I'll see you at the NCHG's silent auction on December 2nd!
Thankfully yours,
