As we celebrate dividends for life in our Nation, students may wear red, white & blue accessories with their clothing.  Picture Day - students may wear Church appropriate clothing to school.   

Thurs., Feb. 4  As we celebrate Vocations, a Live Rosary will be broadcast in classrooms at 2 PM. 

Friday Feb. 5 As we celebrate our teachers the faculty only will have a jeans day.

Free Concert - at 7PM in the Social Hall featuring John Agotti and his band.  OLV Children's Choir will perform at the beginning of the concert.

As a reminder, please be discrete while taking pictures during Mass.  There should be no pictures taken during Consecration. Thank you!

Celebration of Catholic Schools Week Begins on Sunday, January 31, 2010!

You are invited to attend a celebration of Catholic Schools Week on Catholic Schools Dividends for LifeSunday, January 31st.  Join us for a special Mass of celebration at 11 AM followed by open house at the school until 2 PM. Students are encouraged to wear their uniforms to Mass on Sunday! Children always enjoy showing their classroom and the school's other facilities to their parents. In these challenging times, this year's theme "Catholic Schools Dividends for Life," reminds us that the dividends of Catholic school education- students prepared in faith, knowledge, morals and discipline - last a lifetime.  There are additional activities planned throughout the week as we celebrate the gift of Catholic education.     Schedule of Catholic Schools Week Activities

Checking Accounts in 7th Grade Math
Seventh grade math students have created simulated checking accounts.

Catholic Math League Competition The middle school students at OLV compete via a series of four twenty-five question tests (during math class) with other schools across the country in this competition.  more about the math league

Basketball Challenge - grades 5-8 The basketball challenge for students in grades 5-8 will be held on Tuesday, February 2 basketball challenge schedule  

Library - Young Authors' Contest OLV will once again hold a Young Authors' Contest.  Students in grades 1-8 are eligible to participate. Books are due March 22-26, 2010. Young Authors' Contest Guidelines
Student Activities

 

7th & 8th Grade Valentine's Dance Friday Feb. 5th from 7-9 PM in the Parish Center Students should wear Sunday attire to the dance.  Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from a student council representative the week of the dance.


Scholars Bowl Team The OLV Scholars Bowl Team has completed its Over-the-Mountain League competition.  They will be competing in the District ASCA Tournament at Hoover High School on January 30th. more about the Scholars Bowl Team

OLV Geography Bee WinnersGeography Bee - Congratulations to Mick Hagelskamp winner and Austin Keelin first runner-up in the 2010 OLV Geography Bee.more about the Geography Bee

OLV Crowns Spelling Bee Champions OLV Spelling Bee Winners- It began with 24 contestants, two from each continued for one hour, fifteen minutes before the Lucas Panzica was the champion and Juan Jose Campos the runner-up.more about the Spelling Bee

OLV Band Concert - The OLV Advanced Band performed a festive OLV Advanced BandChristmas Concert in the OLV Social Hall on December 17.  The family and friends in attendance were treated to songs such as Silent Night and O Little Town of Bethlehem.  Thank you to Mr. Ron Peters for teaching band to our students!

Soccer Registration The deadline for soccer registration is February 8th. Registration may be done in person after Masses on Jan. 30-31 or by returning the registration form.  soccer registration form
Cafeteria Reminders

Please send checks for ice cream SEPARATELY from lunch ordersChristian Catering because lunch orders are processed separately.  Ice cream checks should also include your child's name and teacher's name in the memo section, particularly if you have more than one child at the school.  Also, please do not include milk and ice cream on the same check as they are two separate accounts. Aftercare and any other payment not related to lunch should also be sent separately.  Thanks for your cooperation.

Calendar Note

Our winter weather day on January 7th will not have to be made-up on Easter Monday since our calendar had 181 instructional days scheduled (the State requires 180).  So, for Easter we will have Noon Dismissal on Holy Thursday and no school on Good Friday or Easter Monday. 

OLV B.A.L.L.
Build a Lasting Legacy at OLV and make plans now to attend the OLV social event of the year - the 9th annual OLV B.A.L.L.  If you've never attended the BALL, this is a fun evening out that you won't want to miss!  If you have attended previously, then you know that the BALL is a great time.  This year's event features a delicious prime rib dinner!  We're welcoming back to the BALL "Total Assets," one of Birmingham's most popular bands.  Plus, there are silent and live auctions, the raffle and much more.  This is our school's most important fundraiser so bring your friends and join the fun!
