Kansas Huntress Synthia Wilson
Needs Our Support!
Olathe resident and passionate hunter, Synthia Wilson, was just selected as one of the twelve finalists for the 2011 Prois Award. The Prois Award contest is an annual event sponsored by Prois Hunting Apparel, a company that designs and markets hunting and outdoor apparel for women.
Each year Prois invites women to submit an entry into the contest detailing their passion for the sport of hunting, their involvement in conservation and in their community, their hunting experiences and a compelling story of their lives. These entries are then reviewed by a panel of esteemed judges who select the finalists. The names and information on the finalists are then posted on the Prois website and people are asked to vote over a six-week period ending December 15th. Votes are then tallied, along with additional votes by the judging panel and the winner of the Prois Award is announced.
The recipient of the 2011 Prois Award winner will enjoy the Hunt of a lifetime for Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail and Wolf in pristine Canadian Rocky Mountains with Savage Encounters.
Now a little about Synthia. Synthia Wilson started out on a farm in the Onaga area where she spent most of her free time outdoors playing in creeks, roaming the woods and developing an appreciation fornature. Even though, at age 10 when her family moved to a more urban area, her father continued to take her bird hunting when he could.
Both her mother and father had a great influence on her desire to become a huntress and many of her family members (men & women alike) in Kansas, Wyoming and Colorado hunt and consider wild game a staple of their meat supply.
After taking a course in archery in college, she knew she had laid the foundation for the challenge of big game hunting. After marriage she took a hunter safety course and continued her hunting pursuits. Her husband gave her a bow for Christmas in 1992 and through hard work and practice earned several 3-D trophies. In 1994 she started bowhunting for deer. She successfully bagged her first buck from a tree stand within ten minutes of setting up (she calls it beginners luck). Over the years she had continued bowhunting from both tree stands and blinds and has enjoyed a great amount of success. She is now more diversified and hunts with a bow during archery season and a rifle during rifle season.
As a hunter, she is described as knowledgeable and passionate for the sport of bowhunting and exhibits ethics in all that she does and teaches to others. She is also enthusiastic and personable. In 2005, she took a 9-point Kansas buck that grossed 130 points and made the Kansas state record book. In 2008 & 2009 she was awarded the title of "Lady Archer/Bowhunter" by Women Hunters.com magazine. She is also a writer and prostaffer for various magazines and companies, but is a strong advocate for young hunters and women hunters. She has been a hunter education and bowhunter education instructor for 12 years and feels blessed to be able to be a positive influence for others. In 2011 she earned her Deer Steward Certification from Quality Deer Management Association. She is also involved in several organizations.
Synthia also enjoys camping, dutch oven cooking, canoeing and rafting, horseback riding, fishing, gardening, canning, photography, forestry and habitat management. You can also read more about her on her website.
Now the Important Part: In order for Synthia to win the big prize, you must cast your vote for her by logging on to the Prois website and selecting her as your choice for the award. You are only allowed one vote. You have until midnight, December 15th to do so. Please cast your vote sooner than later and tell all of your hunting friends to do so, too. Let's make sure that Synthia Wilson (one of our own) from Kansas wins the Prois Award for 2011!
