The Power of Small Steps

Quote Of the Month

"Your brain is programmed to resist change. But, by taking small steps, you effectively rewire your nervous system.  The process creates new connections between neurons so that the brain enthusiastically takes over the process of change and you progress rapidly toward your goal."
~from 'One Small Step Can ChangeYour Life' by Robert Maurer

Prayer for
The Month

I yearn to do so many things differently, O God. Grant me wisdom and vision. Instill in me the courage to be bold and the creativity to discern new paths of action. Keep me strong and centered in your love. Amen

Greetings!

Summertime is winding down. Many of us are now taking a deep breath and getting ready to enter into the fall program season. Perhaps you have taken time to reflect on how you might do things differently this year. If so, this edition of the newsletter is for you! The theme is The Power of Small Steps.

     Enjoy!

Small Steps

hummingbird

When we decide it is time for a makeover in our lives, we often set ourselves up for failure. It happens when we embrace broadly sweeping change that impacts most of our regular routines and habits. We begin our plan for newness with energy and focus. The excitement of envisioned transformation keeps us on track. But not for long. Our minds and bodies and souls yearn for sameness. Slowly but surely the old routines and habits re-emerge and we are back in the rut. Then we just give up.
  • Have you had that experience?

One of the most effective ways to make long lasting change is to target one or two small habits that will undergird the transformation for which we are longing. Focusing our energy on adding a small action to our routine, or replacing an undesirable habit with a more desirable one, is a task that takes a significant amount of resolve. When we take small, intentional steps we are more likely to experience the formation of new, more positive habits that will lay the groundwork for a real, lasting life shift. Whether we are making decisions about our money or diet or work habits, the power of small steps will increase our chance for long term success.

  • How might you begin the transformation process by using the power of small steps?
