Fun...frolic... and laughter...all signs of a summer well spent. In this mid-summer month, it seems fitting to focus the newsletter on theme of laughter.

Enjoy...and Laugh!

Laugh!

"Laughter is the best medicine." Most of us have heard that old adage, and ...believe it. And yet, we sometimes find ourselves in a rut where we realize we don't laugh very much.

What blocks us from more frequent and hardy laughter?

How do we live into a life that fully embraces laughter as good for the body and soul?

When the normal ebb and flow of our lives is balanced and harmonious, laughter comes easily and naturally. But, in the midst of stress, when what is going on in our lives seems overwhelming,
laughter may no longer be part of the regular mix of emotional expression. When we recognize this, it can be incredibly helpful to use laughter as a means to become re-centered on the joy of life. But when we are feeling excessively burdened, finding the opportunity to laugh sometimes needs to be intentional. Engaging in the task of looking for something that makes us laugh, may seem awkward, but it is simply an indication that we are seeking a healing moment for our souls.

How might you find a way to laugh more frequently today?

Here are some ideas:

Identify a silly irony in your life. Tell someone about it!

Go to a website that offers quotes or stories that make you chuckle.

Flip past the TV dramas and spend some time viewing a few ridiculous situation comedies.

Stop and browse the humorous cards section at the local gift shop.

Pay attention to the children in your midst...they are sure to say or do something that makes you giggle.

Watch the world around you...and you will surely find something that tickles you.
  You can make it happen.

Laugh today!

Look On The Bright Side
logoOptimism can be learned. Though it comes more easily and naturally to some than others, it can be an acquired life skill. Optimism is not a denial of the pain and sorrow and injustice of life, nor is it the rejection of the harsh realities of the world. Rather, it is a way to put struggle and challenge into a larger perspective that encourages hope and joy. When we intentionally look at the bright side of a situation, possibility and opportunity can flourish.

How might a troublesome reality in your life be re-framed to encourage a sense of hope for the future?

What are you learning from this struggle?

What are some of the good things that are happening even in the midst of this difficulty?
