Quotes Of the Month

"We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a human journey."

 ~Stephen Covey

"The spiritual path is simply the journey of living our lives."
 ~Marianne Williamson

"Let your mind start a journey through a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be....Close your eyes let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you never lived before."
~Erich Fromm

"I think Superman's journey is to become comfortable on earth. Of course, he's got his role as earth's greatest protector, but he also wants to be as happy as he can, and if that happens to be with Lois, he is going to find a way!"  ~Brandon Routh

Prayer of the Month
"O God, our lives are surrounded by walls.  We confess that too often we build walls to protect ourselves from being hurt, from being changed or from being vulnerable.  We forget the gates, doors, and windows in our walls. Help us, Divine Spirit, to build walls that are freeing...walls that set the boundaries of love and responsibility within which we may live and love and play. Grant us the wisdom to know when to construct, when to confront, when to climb, when to dismantle, when to ignore, and when to go around the walls of our lives. And help us to remember that some of our walls may actually be bridges, answers to unspoken prayer."

Many of us in the Christian tradition are about to turn our attention toward the inward journey as we move into the liturgical time of Lent. Ash Wednesday, February 17th, marks the beginning of the 40 day season. That makes this month an opportune time to focus on clearing the path and envisioning possibilities for the journey ahead.
Blessings to you during this time of introspection and preparation.
                                                             ~Sharon
Clearing the Path
Clearing the path is an important process for us to address as we seek to design a vital and dynamic future for ourselves. Initially, clearing the path means taking inventory of the realities: the issues and the tangible things that are cluttering up our present lives. The goal is to name and embrace what is getting in the way and blocking us from moving forward. Once named and embraced, we can pick up the clutter, toss it away, move it to the side, or at least put it in a place where it can be well managed.

Sometimes the clutter is as menacing as an addiction that needs to be owned and addressed, or as poignant as a broken relationship that cries out for healing.  Other times it is as mundane as making a long overdue dentist appointment, or digging into the mending pile. And, there are times when actual, literal stuff is getting in the way... so a closet or drawer cleaning and a trip to Goodwill is in order.

Whatever clutter is glaring up and attempting to block you from moving forward on the journey, use the Season of Lent to grab it firmly, and get it out of the way! Begin clearing the path today.

What is the clutter blocking your path forward?

How might you begin to move it out of the way?
Possibility Process
Possibility is about vision. It begins with exploring and discovering fresh ideas that challenge us to conceptualize new ways of doing and being. Engaging in a possibility process is not only important for churches, groups and businesses who intend to thrive, it is essential for individuals who desire on-going growth and development. We often lead our organizations through formal visioning processes and mission statement reviews, but are much less likely to submit our personal and professional lives to the same serious considerations. Even though many of us are known to complain that our organizations are 'stuck in their ways', we ourselves are often reticent to embrace real, transformative change for our own lives.

The emphasis on self reflection that is inherent in this liturgical season provides a fruitful opportunity to create new possibility for our lives. By engaging our present commitments and behaviors with creativity and imagination we can hold onto the best of who we are and what we do, while intentionally addressing those areas that are in need of a make-over. This Lent, consider a 40 day possibility process...and 'make all things new'!

Here are 5 possibility process questions that will get you started:

If I could wipe the slate clean, what would I do and how would I be?

What are the qualities that I want in my life every day?

If I were a helicopter, looking down on my life, what would I want to see?

What would it be like to be consistently tuned into my highest self?

What question, if asked right now, would change my life most dramatically and excitingly if I focused on answering it?
