I am trying new things in 2010 in order to stretch and expand. I am on the last day of an Art Retreat in Winter Park, Florida called The Painting Experience. I am learning how to get past my ego and into the moment. I've had to LAUGH a lot to make that happen.
I am in front of a canvas with a large piece of paper, five brushes and a myriad of fabulous paint colors on the table behind me. I allow my body to choose which paintbrush to use, what color to use and how it will be applied onto the paper.
When the "not good enough" or the "I'm not an artist, what am I doing here?" voice comes up, I shake it out and LAUGH.
LAUGHing helps me enter my body and get out of my head. When I LAUGH, I feel myself relax. My curiosity takes over and I play with the brushes and paints. I stop judging and surrender to my body's wisdom.
What happens on the canvas appeals to my senses and emotions. Something emerges from what was once a white space. By listening to that quiet voice within and LAUGHing, I am creating ART.
