Making A Difference For Children!

November, 2011
Greetings!

As you know the reason I created, braininsights, is because as I do brain presentations throughout the country, I have found that most adults do not yet know all that is best for developing brains. My goal is to change this, and make early brain development common knowledge.

The good news is, there are MANY others that are working to promote all that is good for young growing brains! This issue of the braininsights newsletter is dedicated to you and all people working to make  a difference.

In this issue, I have included links to several organizations and business who are investing in valuable ways toward the healthy development of children.  Hopefully, through sharing, this will grow the community of people working together for the awareness that is so greatly needed.

When those of us that care, continue to network and share the impact can be made. Children need all of the adults in their lives to understand all that they need most.
With a heartfelt, "Thank You" for being a friend and supporter of braininsights and for ALL you do to contribute toward making a difference for children!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Sincerely,

Deborah McNelis

Owner and Creator of braininsights

 BRAIN FACTS TO SHARE

Did you know....?

.... The primary need of an infant is to know they are loved. This is only learned through consistent nurturing interactions with primary caregivers.

..... When people experience love, they not only feel happy, but they also produce, a hormone that prevents aging.

.... Inadequate nutrition, neglect, chaotic environments, exposure to environmental toxins, lack of time in nature, trauma and abuse, great amounts of screen time, a focus on academics too early, limited predictability from caregivers, high levels of stress, and lack of quality of daily care affect the physical wiring in a developing brain.

.... Hunger creates the release of stress hormones, because the brain doesn't have what it needs to function well. This can lead to out of control behavior and difficulty in learning.

Tell everyone you know!!

Giving Benefits The Brain!

Giving to others is good for your brain. Research demonstrates, that when donating, the reward center is activated in the brain .....of the giver!

The hormone, oxytocin has been found to be released when giving to others.  At this time of year, it is especially fun to realize that the act of giving to others affects the brain in such a positive way.

Giving for Children

Because children cannot do it on their own... my dream is for all of us to work together to convey the following hopeful message of EVERY child ....

"I hope every adult understands that providing loving, safe, healthy, predictable, nurturing, and stimulating environments allows me to reach my full potential....  hopefully none of them will ignore this amazing opportunity!"

Why now?
  • We have more scientific knowledge than ever before.
  • We know what contributes to the optimal development of young children's brains.
  • We have an economy that requires that we do all we can to make sure that what we do is cost beneficial.
  • We have a greater ability to connect, network, and share with others than ever before.
  • We have approximately 216,000 babies born in the world each day with the UN expecting an increase to 150 per minute in the next 5 years.
  • We have ignored doing all we can for children far too long already.

I so appreciate all the dedicated people I have had the pleasure and honor of connecting with throughout the world! I can not express how exciting it is to daily become aware of additional people that are contributing in some way toward making the lives of children and families better.
