Information Days

In January and February the British Council hold Comenius application surgeries all over the UK.

At a surgery you receive feedback on your application. These events are held before the application deadlines; this gives you time to take any suggestions for improvement on board.

Sean Devlin, Principal of St Mary's Primary School, Northern Ireland, says:

"I certainly found them very useful and would attend again prior to submitting another application."

These surgeries will be advertised on our events page from the start of 2011.

If it is difficult for you to attend a surgery in your region, we can arrange to give you application feedback by email or over the phone.

Comenius assistants offer opportunities to UK schools
Assistants lwinner
Ever wondered the impact a Comenius Assistant could have on your school or college?

When Greenside School, a special school with pupils who have severe or profound learning difficulties applied for an assistant, they did not know what to expect.

Now three Comenius Assistants down the line, the school has benefited immensely from having access to three different European cultures.

To find out more about how a Comenius Assistant can change the lives of pupils and staff, why not read the Greenside case study:

mock council: tackling social and economic inclusion

On November 16, twenty-nine secondary schools and colleges from across the country gathered in the historic Lancaster House.

This year's debate and decision making process focused on the future of the Roma community and on the creation of an EU energy market for greater security of the gas supply.

The Mock Council offers young people a fantastic opportunity to gain an understanding, first-hand, of how democratic institutions work. The events provide insight into how EU Member States work with each other and with the Commission in order to debate and shape policies which will have global impact. It also gives potential future leaders the opportunity to hone their debating, diplomacy and language skills.

2010-european year of combating poverty and social exclusion
European Year of Combatting Social Exclusion
Inspired by its founding principle of solidarity, the European Union has joined forces with its Member States during 2010 to mark it as "The European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion".

Educators and young people throughout Europe, involved in Comenius and eTwinning, have raised awareness and addressed these issues.

At Velindre Community School, learners have severe emotional and behavioural difficulties, resulting in challenging behaviour. However, through participating in the eTwinning project, 'My Friend is Real Friend', young people are learning without realising it.

To read the full story about how these young people in Port Talbot have gained access to Europe, please visit our website:
