BrainTeaser - The Golden Chain
The son of a rich bullion merchant left home on the death of his father. All he had with him was a gold chain that consisted of 127 links. He rented a place in the city centre with a shop at the lower level and an apartment at the upper level. He was required to pay every week one link of the gold chain as rent for the place.
The landlady told him that she wanted one link of the gold chain at the end of one week, two gold links at the end of two weeks, three gold links at the end of three weeks and so on.
The son realised that he had to cut the links of the gold chain to pay the weekly rent. If the son wished to rent the place for 127 weeks, what would be the minimum number of links he would need to cut?

Guest Article - Make The Most Of Your Pension Contributions This Year
It's that time of year again!
It is once again "that time of year" where we are frequently reminding directors of companies to consider the timing of pension contributions. 31st March is one of the most popular company year end dates and plenty of time should be set aside in order to understand the tax implications and formulate a plan.
This is even more vital this year, as a whole host of new legislation is due to come into force with effect from 6th April 2011. This change will have a far reaching impact on how company directors extract profits from their business.
The call is therefore very much to take action now as after 6th April 2011, for the majority the maximum contribution that can be paid into a pension arrangement will be restricted to £50,000 per annum as compared to an employer's contribution rate of £255,000 before 5th April 2011.
If you were planning on making a sizeable pension contribution then the argument is still very much to do it before the change on 6th April 2011.
