Top Tax Tip
Trading Losses!
If you operate an unincorporated business (partnership or sole trader) and you incur a loss in a period of trading, you can claim tax relief for this loss against other income in the year, or preceding tax years.
There are varying conditions that have to be met for the relevant elections and you should always seek professional advice to ensure that losses are relieved in the most tax efficient way.

VAT DEADLINE
As I am sure you are aware the VAT rates are due to increase to 20% on Tuesday the 4th of January.
Please be aware that any invoices that are raised before this date create a tax point and are payable at the current rate of 17.5%; you can use this to your advantage in a couple of ways.
Obviously if you are contemplating any purchase, particularly large ones, ensure that you are invoiced before the 4th January, even if you have not yet paid for it and you will save 2.5%.

Principle 5
Communication - The Telephone
Making the telephone a major part of your marketing.
If the highest purpose is to add value to our customers lives, then the purpose of a telephone call is to find ways that we can add value.
Further to this, questions to ask yourself are:
- Is your phone number not only on every page of your website, but every other bit of marketing material you've created?
- Do you put a call to action to phone you on every bit of marketing?
- Do you reinforce how easy it is for people to do business with you?
- Have you tried direct mail, adverts or similar campaigns that will inspire the reader to pick up the phone?

Principle 6
Become an expert at direct mail.
When it's done well, Direct Marketing is highly effective, because it's by far the most cost-effective way of getting your material into people's homes and offices. There are two types of Direct Mail.
- The first is anything you send to existing customers or clients.
- The second is anything you send to people who've never heard of you.

Here are a number of steps to set you on that path:
- Get everything in one location

- Make your monthly to-do list strategic
- Always delegate, remove items
