"Remember the two benefits of failure.

First, if you do fail, you learn what doesn't work; and second, the failure gives you the opportunity to try a new approach."

MAKE THE MOST OF NOW!
ESSENTIAL PRINCIPLES REVISITED

Earlier this year we sent out the 'Essential Principles' series that shared with you the most effective & powerful ways to immediately grow your business, and bring in more customers.

This checklist serves to refresh your memory of the first four principles (with the further five to appear in the next few Newsletters) and encourages you to start actioning them now, ready for January.

To read each principle in full, please click on the link that follows, that appears in blue.

Principle 1

Know exactly what your purpose for doing business is.

Make sure your business can add value to your customers lives,

by giving solutions to everyday issues and eradicating their problems.
Essential Principle #1

Principle 2

Explicitly communicate the benefits of your product or service to your customer.

The benefit is what's in it for your customer, as opposed to the actual feature of the product/service. Know that people do not generally buy just on features; they buy the benefits.

Essential Principle #2

Principle 3

Don't be dependent on one or two marketing methods.

Turn your business into a multi-level marketing machine. Every month, try out 2 to 3 new marketing methods, on a small scale. Never spend more than you can afford to loose. If something doesn't work, stop it. If it does work, start rolling it out on a larger scale, while it still remains profitable. Do this for a year, and if just one of the methods works each month, you will have 12 new marketing methods, all driving your success and profits.

Essential Principle #3

Principle 4

Use the Internet and e-marketing effectively.
The key, is using the Internet to communicate and build relationships with prospective customers/clients, primarily, but not solely, through emails.

Essential Principle #4

ClientSpotlightCocoalocoClient Spotlight - Andy Salmon and 'Think a link'

Andy Salmon is one of six children who were brought up in Wimbledon, London. He spent ten very successful years in the money markets as a Foreign Exchange Broker. FollowinAndy Salmong hi s departure from the markets in 1998, he ran his own recruitment company, which specialised in Sales and I.T. In 2007, Andy decided to move to Sussex with his wife, Alex, to give their nine year old triplets experience of the country life! In May of 2008 he left his recruitment company to devote and dedicate all of his time to launching a new business venture, 'Thinkalink'.

'Thinkalink' is a fun and easy way to remember any fact whatsoever, employing an underused learning-tool, linking (another word for 'Mnemonic'). It helps you whether you are studying for your medical exams, revising for your GCSEs or trying to read and write. The Dyslexia Association believe Thinkalink is groundbreaking, in particular Andy's Letter Linking technique to aid people's spelling.

Andy Salmon has always been a lover of words. This passion has been embedded deep within him since childhood when his father introduced him to crosswords in his early teens. He dreamt up the idea of 'Thinkalink' in 1995 whilst flicking through a map of the world. He started to learn the capital cities of each country by using this overlooked technique and moved onto the next category.

'This is not your usual 'improve your memory stuff' which is prominent in the market' says Andy 'It's changing people's ways to remember facts, forever. A bold statement, I admit, but it's not unfounded.'

Andy has presented to thousands of children of all ages from 5 to 18 around the UK including the following Sussex schools....Roedean, Brighton, Eastbourne, St Bede's, Hurtspierpoint, Ashdown House, Laughton Community Primary, Cumnor House, St Andrew's and Moira House. He has set up monthly Thinkalink school clubs where he can stretch the gifted and talented but at the same time support a learner. He has written a book (Scholastc Press - April 2011) which contains all his trade secrets along with hundreds of examples to illustrate the power of linking. An e-book (mychild.co.uk) will be downloadable in Jan 2011 which is a book purely about spelling tricks for all high frequency words for Key Stage 1 & 2 students (5 to 11 year olds).

Thinkalink ® is an extremely useful innovation in education which can be used to inspire new ways of thinking and revising.

(Martin Walker, Modern Languages Master, Harrow School)

Andy Salmon and Thinkalink come highly recommended.

(Gareth Mann, Assemblies co-ordinator and History master, Eton College)

'Linking' has taken on a whole new meaning in the girls' vocabulary.

(Susie Worthington, headmistress at Haberdashers Aske for Girls, Junior School)

Letter Linking is a great concept as it is so difficult to teach these letter links. It's an excellent idea to identify them in relative words like this.
(Margaret Betts, Special Needs Co-ordinator, Roedean School)

ArticleTwoSeven key laptop buying factors

Many small business today are power technology users, and need a machine that delivers top performance at a reasonable price.

But before you head for the retail outlets this year, it may be worth stepping back for a few minutes to consider all the other elements that go into making the ideal laptop. Have you thought about battery life, keyboard quality, and portability? Is your next machine going to be a notebook, or perhaps a netbook?

Since PC experiences are so personal, it's always a good idea to try out a laptop before buying it - especially the keyboard and touchpad. The US guide Consumer Reports encourages people to carry the laptop around to make sure it doesn't feel too heavy or big. And while on the subject of ergonomics, a laptop should be quiet and not get so warm that it makes your lap uncomfortable.

So, as you draw up your Christmas laptop wishlist, make sure to assess the following seven laptop characteristics (in alphabetical order).

  • Battery Life.
  • Display.
  • Durability.
  • Hard Drive/Ram.
  • Keyboard/Touch Pad.
