Don't lose out on interest

Savings interest usually has 20% tax taken off before the saver receives it. But anyone over 16 whose income is less than their tax allowance does not have to pay income tax on their savings.

"If you have children who are not working and have a savings account, then they should complete HMRC form R85 to ensure that they are paid gross interest, that is, without tax being deducted"

Chas Roy-Chowdhury

Man pulling out hair  Camp Pineveiw's cook, Margaret Johnson, was just about to begin preparing the picnic lunch for all the campers. She already knew she
needed to fill 55 bowls of the same size and  capacity with the same amount of food. When  she was done, she decided to read the guidelines for the picnic, just out of curiosity. The guidelines said:

1. Every camper gets their own bowl of soup.
2. Every two campers will get one bowl of spaghetti to share.
3. Every three campers will get one bowl of salad to share.
4. All campers are required to have their own helping of salad, spaghetti, and soup.

After some rapid calculations, Margaret was able to figure out how many campers were going to the picnic. Can you?

Sponsoring this issues Brainteaser competition is Cocoaloco, who will be providing the winner with a truly indulgent box of 24 Chocolate Brownies.

Remember its first come first served, the first correct email answer will win the chocolate prize!

Article1Company pensions to be extended

A government review has recommended that all UK businesses should automatically

put staff into a company pension scheme from 2012.

The Pension Act 2008 put in place reforms to widen pension provision by requiring all employers to run an adequate pension scheme for eligible workers. This week's Department for Work and Pensions review goes further by establishing the principle of automatic enrolment.

If no company scheme is available, staff will be enrolled automatically in the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST), a new state scheme for low-to-moderate earners that will start in 2012.

Cocoaloco - Rory and Sarah

About Cocoaloco

The company started when joint company owner Sarah searched for a new business venture after having her second child Oscar. This is where she started baking the now famous

Chocolate Brownies from home and sending them by post from internet orders received on line. Very quickly the company started to grow and soon

Sarah's husband Rory joined the company and the today the company is going from strength to strength.

Cocoaloco has moved from Sarah's and Rory's kitchen and is now operating from larger more suitable kitchen (know affectingly as the Chocolate Barn) which is where they have been for the last couple of years.

Everything produced from their kitchen is handmade from high quality ingredients, from environmentally and ethically sound suppliers and growers. Further to this, all their packing is environmentally friendly and can be composted or recycled.

"The only added ingredient in our products is the love and care that our small team put into their baking and making"

Rory Payne - Managing Director.

ArticleTwoHMRC withdraws Sunday call service

From the end of November, HMRC has announced that it will close its contact centres on Sundays. The move will allow the tax department to redeploy staff to the peak periods throughout the rest of the week,"driving down waiting times and providing a more effective service for all".According to HMRC's impact assessment of the move, advisers are often left waiting for calls during very quiet periods such as Sunday afternoons and redeploying them at much busier times will allow the department to answer an extra 3% of call attempts - equating to around 1.7m extra

calls handled.
