Top Tax Tip
Have you considered making better use of business gifts as a marketing tool?
Tip: The cost of business gifts is tax deductible for the business if the gift (a) contains a conspicuous advert for your business, and (b) is NOT food, drink, tobacco or tokens or vouchers exchangable for goods, and (c) does not amount to more than £50 per person a year.

Quote Of The Week
| And while the law of competition may be sometimes hard for the individual, it is best for the race, because it ensures the survival of the fittest in every department.

| | Joke Of The Week
Two accountants are in a bank, when armed robbers burst in.
While several of the robbers take the money from the tellers, others line the customers, including the accountants, up against a wall, and proceed to take their wallets, watches, etc.
While this is going on accountant number one jams something in accountant number two's hand.
Without looking down, accountant number two whispers, "What is this?" to which accountant number one replies, "it's that $50 I owe you." |

Last vacation, my cousin came over to stay at my home. We made the most of her stay at my place... and I even earned a few chocolates.
Everyday, we would play a game of chess. Whoever lost the game owed a chocolate to the other. After the last game we played (that was the day she was to leave), we counted the number of games each of us had won and lost. Wow! I had won more than her. So, she handed me 22 chocolates... though she herself was the winner in 9 games.
How many days did my cousin spend at my place?

How To Get The Most Out Of My Accountant
Once you've decided on an appropriate accountant, they will send you a letter, outlining their terms. Ensure that you are happy with the agreement, and keep in regular contact with your accountant; build a relationship, and make sure they understand your business properly, and stay up-to-date with the latest changes.
When you contact your accountant, they should respond quickly, and provide you with the information/advice that you require.
For your part, you should make sure that you keep to records and agreed deadlines. No accountant is happy when a client takes ages to deal with a request, or leaves the paperwork to the last minute, and then expects to get preferential treatment.

Client Spotlight - Consulting Smart
Hi, I'm Steve Beecroft and I am Managing Director of Consulting Smart Ltd. I am also a writer, and if you would like to have a look at some of my articles, click here or here. We have been in business now for 4 years, but have 20 years business consultancy experience in total.
We are based in Shoreham by Sea, and we provide Business Transformation consultancy specialising in smart cards, wristbands and key fob schemes. We also sell pre-paid cashless systems. We are part of a wider industry of Smart Technologies including Biometrics and Near Field Communications (NFC) on mobile phones.
Our ideal client is one whose customer base is similar to a membership in that they access the same services, buildings, network systems i.e. staff of a local / national company, supporters of a football club, holiday makers at a holiday village, residents of a local authority, guests at a hotel, visitors to a theme park or attraction etc.
We have a special offer on at the moment; we are offering a free Discovery Session and Tailored Concept Report, which will allow your organisation understand how a smart card scheme can help you cut costs, generate more revenue or simple provide a more secure environment.
We are the largest local company in our industry. There are many other consulting companies around this area, but none of those cover as many sectors as we do, which is what makes us special. Our 5 year plan is to grow market share in each sector, and double our turnover in years 1&2, and then increase by 50% thereafter.
I am new to Keepers' services, and looking forward to developing a productive working relationship with them in the coming year. Primarily, I am looking for sound financial guidance and so far my expectations have been exceeded.

Majority Of SME Owners Have No Business Plan
More than half of small business owners do not have a written, formalised business plan, with 21% forgoing contracts for employees.
The research by SimplyBusiness.co.uk found that many small companies struggle with paperwork; mostly when starting up. But, by trying to avoid it, they are risking exposing their business to legal action.
"Small businesses are subject to just the same strict labour laws as big businesses, but would be a lot less capable of weathering costly legal action" stated Jason Stockwood, chief executive of SimplyBusiness.
