If you are a sole trader, have you considered taking your spouse into partnership? Tip: Care must be taken to ensure that your spouse's share of profits is not disproportionate to their share of involvement, and it must be run as a genuine partnership.

Joke of the Week

You know that old saying, 'Attack is the best form of defence'?

It is rumoured that they are more people working for the Revenue than there is in the
armed forces.

Clearly then, the government thinks a tax is the best form of defence.

This week's joke was courtesy of Barry, here at Keepers!

We want you to be a part of your Newsletter, so please send us your jokes!

Quote Of The Week

Watch your thoughts; they become words.

Watch your words; they become actions.

Watch your actions; they become habits.

Watch your habits; they become character.

Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Greetings!

Congratulations to Martin Augier, from Maxmatt Ltd, for winning last week's BrainTeaser; the answer was that the traveller with 3 loaves should get 1 coin, and the traveller with 5 loaves should get 7 coins.

This week's BrainTeaser will be just for fun.

I have two US coins totalling 55 cents. One is not a nickel.
What are the coins?

Firstly, we would like to say thank you to CM Databases, who sponsored the last BrainTeaser.

n developed especially for small businesses.

They have a team of five who distribute the product across the UK, but also have clients abroad.  If you are trying to run a business using Outlook, Excel, or just with your mobile phone - then you might like to consider whether you are running it efficiently.

You owe it to yourself and your business to have a proper contact management system; go to www.cmdatabases.co.uk if you'd like more details about theirs. P.S. If you quote 'KEEPERS', you will get a 20% discount!

Warning!! This could impact your wages dramatically!!

Are you aware that the Government are making it compulsory for both employers AND employees to pay into a work-based pension scheme within the next year or so?

This is fully supported by all political parties as there is a pensions "black hole" in the UK.

It will apply to any employer with one or more staff and could have a serious impact on your wages bill.

If you act now, there are ways you can minimise the impact of the forthcoming changes and in fact, make it cost neutral.

If you act now, the worry and hassle of implementing this can be outsourced.  If you do nothing about it, someone in your company will be obliged to run the government's version of this which is called NEST or National Employment Savings Trust.

We would urge you to arrange to speak with us, where we can explain in more detail how this scheme will affect you.  This meeting is completely free and at the same time, we can review other financial planning areas of your business, or indeed personally for any of the staff.

Please contact Chris in the first instance to get the ball rolling.

It is vital that you contact us now if you employ anyone, or you are employed by your company. By taking action now, you will avoid future cost.

National Insurance Breaks for First 10 Employees

In the emergency Budget 2010, George Osbourne announced plans to give new businesses outside the south-east and London a 5,000 employers' National Insurance exemption for each of their first 10 employees.

The idea of this exemption is to encourage SMEs to expand and to improve their employment rate, and will run for 3 years.

This only applies to companies outside London, the south east and the east of England, to address the imbalances between the regions, and to encourage more business development outside the City and surrounding regions.

George Osbourne said, because the threshold at which employers pay National Insurance will also rise by 21 per week above inflation, it will lift 650,000 employees out of this tax altogether.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer also said that the Government plans to have the scheme set up by September, but any new businesses setting up from the date of the Budget will also receive help.

"The Treasury estimates that some 400,000 businesses will benefit - ensuring all parts of our country contribute to a more balanced and sustainable economic future." - George Osbourne
