Utilise ISA allowances - though relatively small, these do add up over time and can be very powerful if significant gains are made

Greetings!

In this Newsletter, we have 2 things to offer you that can, and will, if you let it, increase your business's success and profitability enourmously. Take a look at both our Client Spotlight and Get Something for Nothing sections for more information.

Firstly, we would like to congratulate Wayne Sturt, from W & N Training, for winning the last BrainTeaser.

The same rules apply for this week's BrainTeaser; The first person to email us with the correct answer will win a mystery prize!

John, James, and Harry have £4.80 which they wish to divide equally among them. To do this, John, who has the most, gives to James and Harry as much as they already have. Then, James divides by giving John and Harry as much as they have after John's division. Harry then divides with John and James in the same way, and it is found that they have equal sums.

How much did each person start off with?

Hi, my name's Jason Rudland, and I'm Managing Director of Get Me In Google (GMIG). We are based in Battle, East Sussex, and we are an Inbound Internet Marketing agency. We help Clients from all over London & the South East.

We are a Limited company, and have been trading for 2 years.

My background is as a programmer, and web designer. I was working as the IT manager for a firm of City stock brokers, where I got involved in Internet Marketing, which led me to starting up GMIG.

We don't have many direct competitors in the UK, because Inbound Marketing is still little-known; but it's the next big thing on the internet!

Over the next 5 years, I would like to continue to grow my business, and establish Inbound Marketing in the UK.

One Client (you know him!) said this about my work;

'Jason and the whole team at GMIG have proved invaluable to the continued growth of our business, and the same goes for many of our customers, a real pleasure to work with.' Chris Halward, Keepers Accountancy

As part of this Spotlight feature, I would like to extend to you 2 very special offers;

A 30 day free Internet Marketing trial, in which I will demonstrate how I can drive traffic to a website and generate leads.

A Free website report, that looks into a website's internet marketing activities, highlights potential problems, and then shows you how to fix them.

Keepers have been enormously supportive in the formative years of the business, and have given me sound advice on how to grow my business. The day-to-day accounting activities work like clockwork, but the real value to me has been the proactive advice and guidance.

If you would like to take me up on one of the offers above, please contact me in one of the following ways;

VAT Explained

Value Added Tax is levied on most business transactions, goods and some services. VAT does not apply to services such as insurance, training, loans and some types of education; these are considered 'exempt'.

There are currently 3 different types of VAT in Great Britain; 17.5%, the 'reduced' 5% rate, and the 'zero' rate, which, guess what, is 0%.

New Tax Penalty hits Rebate Claimant

A self-employed Kent tradesman who overclaimed a £3,000 tax rebate was forced to hand over £400 to the HMRC after falling foul of the department's new penalty regime.

According to McGrigors, the law firm that represented the unnamed taxpayer, the penalty was incurred because his original calculation of the size of the rebate was inaccurate. The claimant thought he was owed £3,000 but the the actual amount was £1,000.

Under the old penalty system, HMRC fined taxpayers who had either underpaid their taxes or were late in paying their taxes or submitting their tax returns. With the new regime, HMRC can now levy penalties on individuals and businesses for inaccuracies in tax returns and other documents, and can fine them even if the taxpayer is owed money. In this case, the taxpayer was fined 70% of the £2,000 difference between the size of his claim and what he was actually owed, which amounted to £1,400

Possible VAT Change from 1st July

VAT specialist and former Taxation writer of the year Neil Warren added his voice this week to the chorus of advisers anticipating a VAT rate rise this summer.

"I think it'll be 20% from 1 July," Warren told AccountingWEB. "The European Union average is 19.6%. The change could be significant for businesses considering commercial property purchases, he added. Many firms have to pay VAT on such transactions and a 2.5% rate increase could make a significant difference.

"If you have clients who are planning property purchases, I would advise them to get a move on," Warren said.

Banks and other financial institutions face paying two new taxes to fund future bail-outs, the BBC has learned.

Business editor Robert Peston said the global proposals by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were "more radical" than most had anticipated.

All institutions would pay a bank levy - initially at a flat-rate - and also face a further tax on profits and pay.

Something For Nothing!

As you already know, we stay up all night, every night trying to find something that can improve your business, either by improving efficiency, trying out a new marketing method/approach, reducing overheads, etc.

Well, this week is no different; we have discovered something that will cost you absolutely nothing to implement, and will, if you don't already have one, improve your business significantly, by both increasing efficiency and trying out a new marketing approach.

It is of course a Website.

I can hear you already saying 'You lied. You said it costs absolutely nothing to implement, and you have to pay for a website'. Well, here's the magic; we've found a way that, if you don't already have one, you can create a website for free. That includes the domain name, the software to design and publish your site, and hosting! For nothing! What's more, if you aren't great with technology, we will also teach you how to use the software to design and publish your site!

As those of you who already have a website will know, the internet is transforming business as we know it, and anyone who isn't already on the web, should be.

Which is why we have been looking for something like this. So, if you would like to know more about this, please either click here, or call Ben on 0800 612 2008.

Thanks for reading. You can find us on our website, Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn; just click the relevant link at the top of the Newsletter.
